HOW IT HAPPENED:

Longwood (7-15) found themselves on the verge of dropping the opening doubles point, as Presbyterian (6-15) led the Lancers on all three doubles courts. However, Longwood wasn't deterred, and the Lancers found ways to win at No. 1 and by a seventh point at No. 3 to claim the first point.

Singles play also provided some tight and entertaining matches. Emma Nurgazieva pulled out the win at No. 1 in dramatic fashion, winning the third set with a tiebreaking seventh point. Maria Saez came close at No. 2 and Karina Rizvanova took care of business at No. 3 to give the Lancers a 3-0 lead.

Although Wiktoria Czerny fought to a third set at No. 4, she ultimately dropped her singles match. Losses at No. 5 and No. 6 earned the win for the Blue Hose, but the fight and passion shown by the Lancers today was evident.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"The ladies gave absolutely everything they had on the court today," said Longwood Director of Tennis Adam Jackson. "Presbyterian just came out on top, credit to them for fighting hard as well. We had some come from behind victories and won the doubles point after being down on all three courts. They played with a lot of heart and I am proud."
