HOW IT HAPPENED:

A Virginia side that was picked to finish second in the ACC Coastal Division flexed its offensive muscle early. The ACC powerhouse Cavaliers plated runs in each of the first four innings to take a commanding lead.

Meanwhile, starter Connelly Early kept the Lancer offense unable to offer a counter through his four innings of work. Early (1-0) earned the win. Dylan Saale (0-1) took the loss after pitching into the third inning for the Lancers.

The Lancers got on the board in the eighth inning with back-to-back base hits. Justin Looney singled, and James Nelson swatted a homer one batter later, his first of the season.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

Longwood is in the midst of a tough stretch that sees it play three different ranked teams in the span of a week.

The Lancers have four home runs on the season.

Nelson was the fourth different Lancer to hit a home run this season.
