CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Longwood men's soccer had four players earn all-conference honors, the Big South Conference announced on Friday afternoon.
Mason Butcher was named to All-Big South Second Team, and
Simao Coelho was an Honorable Mention All-Big South. In addition,
Darcy Moffat was an All-Freshman Team selection, and
Gonzalo Carrasco earned All-Academic Team honors.
Butcher was a steady center back, and he was instrumental in helping Longwood post the second-best goals against average in the Big South (1.33). The Lancers also had a trio of shutouts.
A senior, Butcher also was dominant in the air both defensively and offensively. He scored two goals, which tied for the team lead, with one going down as a game winner.
Coelho was a creative force to be reckoned with along the wing for the Lancers, and the sophomore led the team with 51 shots on the season. A threat to break down defenders constantly, Coelho scored one goal and added an assist.
Moffat also tied for the team lead with a pair of goals, including the game winning goal in his collegiate debut. He had an assist as well and tied for third on the team with five points while working at the top of the Lancer formation. He was the Big South Freshman of the Week twice as well.
Carrasco was a steady, dependable holding midfielder who had enough creative juice to also jumpstart the Lancer attack. In the classroom, he also has excelled in his time at Longwood. He is currently pursuing his MBA in Data Analytics after earning his undergraduate degree in business administration.
On the pitch, Carrasco made 11 starts and 14 appearances for the Lancers while playing nearly 1,000 minutes in the midfield. He had a pair of assists as well, and he was a constant relief valve who created unique attacking angles out of thin air.
The Lancers wrapped up the regular season earlier this week, and they will take the field again to chase the Big South Championship in the fall of 2024.
