KENT, Ohio – Longwood field hockey took an early lead at MAC power Kent State on Sunday afternoon, but the Golden Flashes (6-9, 4-2 MAC) used a surge to push past the Lancers (3-14, 1-5 MAC) 3-1.

Zoe Tierney gave Longwood the early lead as the Lancers gave a good effort on the road, but Eva Usoz banged home two goals for the home side.

Longwood battled early and late, creating chances throughout the match.

The Lancers took an early lead in the first period after earning a penalty corner less than four minutes into the match.
Zoe Tierney finished off the chance off the setup from
Kylie Levine for a 1-0 advantage.

Kent State tied it up on Katie Wuerstle's goal late in the first quarter before Eva Usoz slotted home a penalty corner early in the second period.

The Lancer defense, and goalkeeper
Lara Van Nunen, kept Longwood around despite heavy pressure thereafter from the Golden Flashes. Van Nunen made eight saves.

Longwood kept pressuring the home side, with five penalty corners after halftime, but the equalizing goals didn't come through while Usoz added one for Kent State in the third.
