Box Score LEXINGTON, Va.- The Longwood men's soccer team defeated the Virginia Military Keydets 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Longwood (1-1) put immediate pressure on the Keydets (0-1-1) with four shots in the first five minutes. The Lancers struck first after Caspar played a ball over the VMI backline in the second minute that Magnoli was able to perfectly place over the Keydet keeper.
After a Keydet corner, Magnoli and Carlos combined for a long breakaway on the counter and Carlos put the ball in the back of the net to double the Lancer lead.
Martin slotted a pass to Bouchachia who split the Lancers lead in half just before the first half whistle.
The Magnoli/Carlos combo again combined in the 71
st minute as Carlos slotted a left footed shot into the right corner to re-extend the Longwood lead back to two, and ultimately icing the game.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:
"We are delighted to get the win and in the manner we did was very encouraging," said
Jon Atkinson on the teams rebound after their first match. "VMI made it tough and battled throughouht which made the boys realize there are no givens at this level."
"The areas we struggled at ETSU showed more life and while this was by no means a perfect game, some of the execution was delightful and we could have put the game away so much earlier," further added Atkinson. "We may well take head of this as our demand and quality in our final third transition still needs some work but the season is still young. I'm happy for the boys and staff to get the win. They earned it today"
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Longwood bettered their all-time series record against VMI to 13-1 after today. The Lancers are currently riding an 11 game win streak against the Keydets
Both Jose Carlos and
Marco Magnoli both scored their first goals as a member of the Longwood men's soccer team. Their four points a-piece are tied for second most by a Lancer in Longwood's DI era.
Gonzalo Carrasco made his Lancer debut against VMI, and
Joshua Yoder made his collegiate debut when he made the starting XI
Longwood out-shot the Keydets 22-7 which included 15 shots in the first half.

th. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
