Longwood Men's Tennis Sweep The Hampton Pirates For First Conference Win

HAMPTON, Va. – The Longwood men's tennis team swept the field with a decisive 7-0 victory over Hampton University. This gives the Lancers their first Big South victory of the season after three prior matches.
Doubles
In No.1 doubles, Longwood (6-7) senior
Guillermo Cagigas and junior
Ernest Rocabert went against Hampton (2-9) freshman Ange-Kevin Koua and sophomore Donte Armbrister before emerging victorious with a 6-2 score. No.2 doubles followed suit as freshman
Luis Reis and graduate
Rosen Naydenov took down Jeremiah Williams and junior Daud Gantt-Bey in a 6-3 matchup, clinching the doubles point for the Lancers.
Yoav Weinberg and
Jourdan Kast were ahead in No.3 doubles, but the match did not finish due to the doubles point being clinched.
Singles
No.1 singles saw the victory of Naydenov over Koua with a score of 6-2, 6-3, starting a string of three consecutive victories in straight sets. In No.2 and No.5 singles graduate
Jourdan Kast and freshman
Yoav Weinberg defeated senior Fayzullokhon Mavlyudov and Gantt-Bey in straight sets, respectively. In No.3 and No.6 singles Rocabert and Reis triumphed with similar scores as they trumped graduate Cliff Dwyer and junior Jeremiah Williams also in straight sets, respectively. The No.4 singles match between Cagigas and Armbrister was a close match before the Cagigas eventually won the tiebreaker 7-6, 6-3, 11-9. Â
