CAA Power William & Mary Men's Tennis Downs Longwood

Tribe Muscles Past Lancers 7-0

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary's men's tennis team took down Longwood men's tennis 7-0. That gave the Tribe their first win of the season after a tough opening weekend while Longwood suffered its first loss after their own 4-2 win over the Saint Francis Red Flash.

The runners up in the CAA Tournament last season, William & Mary (1-3) took a hotly contested doubles point. The duo of Joseph Brailovsky and Chen Ruo won #2 doubles 6-1 over Longwood's duo of Yoav Weinberg and Guillermo Cagigas. Longwood's Luis Reiz and Rosen Naydenov battled with William & Mary's Harrison Brown and George Davis at #1 doubles, but Brown and Davis squeezed past the Lancers 6-4. The Tribe's Daniel Pellerito and Finbar Talcott closed out the doubles sweep by winning a tiebreak over Nikhil Kulkarni and Ernest Rocabert 7-6 (7-5).

In singles, The Tribe won each singles match to clinch the win. Brown started the singles run at #2 and took down Jourdan Kast 6-2, 6-1. Davis took a competitive pair of sets over Naydenov 6-3, 7-5 at #1 singles, and Brailovsky clinched the match win with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Weinberg.

Cagigas battled at #3 singles, taking Sebastian Quiros to a tiebreak in place of a third set, but Quiros held on 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4). Rocabert also battled back in the second set against Pellerito, ultimately falling 6-0, 7-5 at #5 singles. Sean Joseph downed Kulkarni 6-1, 6-2 at #6 singles.

"The men competed well against a strong William & Mary team," said Longwood head coach Adam Jackson. "This is great preparation for what's to come. Our doubles play particularly has been strong."

The Longwood men's tennis team stays on the road for a third straight match with a trip to James Madison University on February 11th.
