CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern women's tennis team earned its second conference win of the season by using strong singles play to take out Longwood 5-0.
Singles
Singles were played first due to the threat of rain, and Charleston Southern (5-3, 2-0 Big South) won five of the six singles matches, with the six unfinished due to the weather. At No. 1 singles, Luiza Fullana took out Longwood's (2-6, 0-2 Big South)
Emma Nurgazieva 6-1, 6-2. In the No. 2 matchup,
Karina Rizvanova battled in a tight second set, but CSU's Noa Boyd earned the win 6-0, 6-4.
CSU's Amila Jusufbegovic took out
Wiktoria Czerny 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 singles, and Tiffany Pyritz and Zoe Cauthen won No. 5 and No. 6 singles over
Nina Hederich (6-3, 6-2) and
Alexandra Hincu (6-1, 6-0).
Maria Saez had a tight match with Khyanna Singh at No. 3 singles, with Singh taking the first set 7-6 after winning a tiebreaker. The second set was not finished due to rain.
Doubles
No doubles matches were finished due to rain, and Charleston Southern had already clinched the match win.
Next
The Lancers will stay on the road for their next two matchups, beginning with a match against Ashland University on Saturday March 5 in Blacksburg, Virginia. They then head to Norfolk State on Wednesday, March 9 before returning home on Tuesday, March 15 to host Radford.
