The Opening Tip:
  • In Longwood's last outing it was Akila Smith who showed off offensively grabbing another 20 plus point game (23). Smith has strung together eight straight games in double figures, beginning back on Jan. 22 against Gardner Webb.
  • Tra'Dayja Smith also had a performance for the books. Smith earned her second double-double of the season with 10 points, and 10 assists. Smith leads the Big South in assists for the second straight season. Right now she stand in 24th place in the country with 134 total on the year.
  • McMakin has continued her double-digit scoring streak, now extended to 14 - beginning at the start of conference competition.
  • Across the Big South, the top five teams all have a one or two game separation. Longwood stands in third place still looking to face Hampton for the first time this season, and USC Upstate on the road.

By the Numbers:
  • Kyla McMakin has been able to keep the streak alive during Big South play, putting together 14 straight games in a row with double-digit point totals. McMakin grabbed a season best of 33 against Gardner-Webb in January, making her 29 point performance against Winthrop a close second. McMakin also strung four consecutive games with 20 plus points, matching the Longwood record in doing so.
  • Akila Smith has been one of the top shot blockers in the country throughout this season. She ranks first in the Big South with 72, and is ranked fourth in the country. Smith is the only forward in the top 10 under six feet tall.
  • Akila Smith wrote her name in the Longwood record books again with her second career triple double, the third in team history, with a 20-point, 11-rebound, 10-block effort at Sam Houston on Nov. 30. Smith also hit her 1,000th point this season back on January 29th against Radford.
  • Kyla McMakin and Akila Smith are ranked amongst the top scorers in the Big South, coming in first (McMakin, 462) and fourth (Smith, 409) for final point total. This is the second straight season the duo remains in the top five.
  • Tra'Dayja Smith grabbed her second double-double of the year against North Carolina A&T on Saturday (10 points, 10 assists). Smith is the leading passer in the Big South for the second year in a row, with 134 assists on the year.
  • Kennedy Calhoun has been a menace to opposing guards defensively. Calhoun earned her first ever Freshman of the Week honor after stringing together two more games in double-digit scoring and collecting eight assists back in January. She now has 69 steals, ranking second in the Big South, 11th nationally.
