The Opening Tip
•    Longwood opens a five-game homestand, the team's longest of the season.
•    Through two games, Longwood has had two different leading scorers. Michael Christmas scored a team-best 12 against #20 Alabama in the season opener, and Isaiah Wilkins led the way with 13 against George Mason.
•    Wilkins and fellow graduate student DeShaun Wade were selected to the Big South Preseason All-Conference Teams. Wilkins earned a spot on the first team, and Wade garnered a second team spot.
•    The Lancers return nine players who earned minutes on the team that won the Big South title.
•    Longwood has now been to the NCAA Tournament at all three levels: Division I, II and III.
•    The Lancers have proven tough to beat in Willett Hall in the past four seasons, going 42-17 under head coach Griff Aldrich.

Last Time Out
•    Longwood battled George Mason on the road but fell 83-69 after a hot-shooting start by the Patriots.
•    After George Mason jumped out to a 41-24 lead, the Lancer defense found itself and helped Longwood work back into the game.
•    George Mason hit eight three's in the first half, but Longwood's defense held the Patriots without a made three until the final seconds of the second half.
•    Meanwhile, Isaiah Wilkins scored 10 of his 13 points after halftime to help power Longwood back into the game.
•    Longwood scored 40 of its 69 points in the paint on a night when three's weren't going down.
•    Leslie Nkereuwem and Walyn Napper each added 10 points, and Michael Christmas chipped in nine points, with seven after halftime. Nkereuwem added a team-best eight rebounds.

By The Numbers
•    Longwood was picked to repeat as the Big South Champions in the preseason poll, with the Lancers garnering 16 of 20 first place votes. It marked the highest spot in the preseason poll in team history.
•    The Lancers are averaging 10.5 offensive rebounds per game, the second straight season that the team has averaged at least 10 per game. Longwood ranked 27th in the nation last season by pulling down 12.2 offensive rebounds per game.
•    The Lancers had one of the top offensive attacks a season ago, posting the 52nd highest scoring average in the nation at 75.8 points per game.
•    In addition, Longwood's three-point attack was 20th in the nation in three-point percentage at 37.7 percent.
•    DeShaun Wade led the way with one of the best three-point shooting seasons in team history. His percentage of 44.8 was ranked the fourth-best  mark in a single-season in team history.
•    The Lancers are also ranked No. 171 in the KenPom rankings, one of their highest rankings ever. The team finished last season at No. 145, the best mark to end a season in program history.
•    Longwood had a pair of preseason all-conference selections heading into the 2022-23 season. It was the first time the team has had two players selected for preseason all-conference honors since joining the Big South in 2012.
•    Thanks to the team's Big South Championship and subsequent trip to the NCAA Tournament, the Lancers have now made a trip to the national tournament in all three NCAA divisions. The first came in the 1979-80 season with a team that went to the NCAA Division III Final Four. This past spring was the team's first trip at the Division I level.
•    Longwood set multiple records last season: 26 wins, going 16-1 at home and winning 11 straight.

Quotables
"The journey for this team, it's a process. We have to continue to stack days and stack games of who Longwood basketball is. We're not doing that consistently enough right now. We didn't do that tonight. We've got to be better at that. The team will get there. I thought there were a lot of bright spots tonight, but that's got to be our focus: continuing to do the things we do as a program with effort, focus and attitude. That's our focus."

—Longwood head coach Griff Aldrich after the game against George Mason

Series History
•    This is the 21st meeting between the two teams
•    The two sides have played once since Longwood moved to Division I, with Longwood winning 109-69
•    The two teams played 19 times between 1992 and 2003.
