BLACKSBURG, Va.- The Longwood women's tennis team sent four players to compete in the International Tennis Association Regional tournament in Blacksburg, Virginia.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Doubles

Maria Saez and Wiktoria Czerny took on Erika Cheng and Sabina Richtrova from Virginia Tech and had an early advantage, leading 4-2 after the first six sets. Cheng and Richtrova claimed the final six sets to win the match 8-4 and advance to the next round.


Karina Rizvanova and Emma Nurgazieva faced off against Karly Friedland and Ioana Gheorghita from Penn State. Friedland and Gheorghita won the contest 8-3 and eventually fell to a duo from West Virginia 8-2.


Singles

Nurgazieva faced off against Priscila Janikian from Liberty University in the round of 64 and forced the extra set to a 5-7 score. Janikian fell in the next round to an opponent from VCU.

Rizvanova dueled Casey Accola from Navy and fell 6-2, 6-3.

Saez went against Mary Brumfield from the University of Maryland and fell 6-3, 6-1.

Czerny led off against the top overall seed, Dariya Radulova from Virginia Tech and fell 6-2, 6-1. Radulova breezed through the round of 32 and is in the final 16 against Kallista Liu from the University of Maryland currently.

"The ladies had some tough draws and brought a great attitude and effort to their matches," said director of tennis Adam Jackson. "It is always beneficial to compete against strong competition and we will be better going forward."
