The Opening Tip:
  • Longwood coming off two victories, both against UNC Asheville, is looking for vengeance from their most recent meeting with Campbell in the 2020-21 Big South tournament.
  • In the last meeting between the Lancers and Camels, Campbell knocked Longwood out of the Big South Tournament in the semifinals, only the second time the team has made it to the semifinal round since joining the league.
  • Kennedy Calhoun earned her first ever Freshman of the Week award after stringing together two games averaging double-digits points, and grabbing eight more steals on the season - now ranking seventh nationally in steals.
  • Before the conference tournament last season, Campbell and Longwood split the wins in the two meetings during the season. Playing each other on back-to-back days, Longwood pulled out the win on the second day with a buzzer beater from Kyla McMakin.
 By The Numbers:
  • Akila Smith has been one of the top shot blockers in the country throughout this season. She ranks first in the Big South with 45, and is ranked sixth nationally.
  • Tra'Dayja Smith is the leading passer in the Big South for the second year in a row, with 79 assists on the year, and is ranked 15th nationally after.
  • Kyla McMakin and Akila Smith are ranked amongst the top scorers in the Big South. Both McMakin and Smith have now strung together four games in a row with double-digit scoring. This is the second straight season the duo remains in the top five.
  • Kennedy Calhoun has been a menace to opposing guards defensively, and has made a stance for herself going into conference play. Calhoun earned her first ever Freshman of the Week honor after stringing together two more games in double-digit scoring and collecting eight assists last week. She now has 45 steal (3.00 spg) and is ranked seventh nationally for steals - as a freshman point guard.
  • Akila Smith wrote her name in the Longwood record books again with her second career triple double, the third in team history, with a 20-point, 11-rebound, 10-block effort at Sam Houston on Nov. 30.
  • Following the opening week in conference play, Smith averaged a double-double against opponents, making it five total for her on the year.
 Series History:
  • Last meeting between the two teams was in Longwood's second ever semi-final appearance in the Big South Tournament.
  • Coach Tillett earned her first win over Campbell last spring in a thrilling game that came down to the wire. Kyla McMakin's game-winning buzzer beater gave Longwood a 54-52 win that also wound up as the #3 play on SportsCenter's Top10.
