FARMVILLE, Va. – Charleston Southern continued to roll in Big South play, improving to 3-0 in the conference with a 4-0 win over Longwood women's tennis on Friday afternoon at the New Lancer Courts.
 
The dual was preceded by a senior day celebration, as senior Lancer Crystal Nzewi was recognized prior to the beginning of the match. Also recognized were Jamie Breunig, a four-year starter for the Lancers who graduated in May of 2020.
 
However, preseason-third predicted Bucs spoiled the celebration with their fifth win of the season, as the perennial Big South-power continued to roll on Friday afternoon.
 
Charleston Southern has been lethal in doubles play in 2021, and their dominance was on display with a pair of 6-0 wins to earn the first point of the match. Madalina Man and Khyanna Singh secured the first win, while Luiza Fullana and Michelle Schmitz notched the second win for the Bucs to improve their Big South doubles record to a perfect 6-0.
 
Their momentum carried into single play, as Schmitz and Tiffany Pyritz won on the sixth and fifth courts to bring Charleston Southern within a point of clinch.
 
Man delivered on the first court, ending Maria Saez's two-match winning streak to ice the match for the Bucs. After falling 6-1 in the first set, Saez battled back to force a tiebreak in the second set before Man was able to pull out the win.
 
With the dual being played to clinch, three singles bouts were left unfinished, including Nzewi's fourth three battle with Singh. After falling 6-0 in the opening set, Nzewi battled back on her senior night to level the second set at 5-5 where it would be left unfinished.
 
With their 2021 home slate on their new courts complete, the Lancers will be back on the road Saturday, April 3 when they take on George Mason in their final non-conference clash.
