Lancer Leadoff

  • Cullan Wadsworth had his first multi-homer game of his Longwood career against Norfolk State, swatting a two-run and a three-run bomb. He is tied for 12th in the Big South with four.
  • Ricky Jimenez became the third Lancer with a multi-homer game this season, smashing two home runs on April 17 in game one against Presbyterian. The junior is tied for 12th in the Big South with four homers.

  • Longwood is third in the Big South with 273 base hits. The team has posted a season-high 15 hits twice. The first came against NC Central in a 22-14 win, while the second came in a 7-6 loss to Presbyterian.

In 2017, Longwood led the Big South with 511 punchouts in 2017, breaking the school's D-I record of 440.  That season, Longwood was also third in the nation with 9.9 strikeouts per nine innings. The Lancers were fifth in the Big South in 2016 with 404 K's and third in 2015 with 440 K's.
  • Eliot Dix has mashed in the middle of hte lineup for Longwood in 2021. The freshman ranks in the top 10 in the Big South in batting average (.362-5th), on-base percentage (.434-9th), slugging percentage (.574-7th) and RBI (30-T-4th).
  • Dix is coming off a four-game series against Presbyterian on 4/16-17 where he hit .412 (7-17) while driving in eight runs. Of his eight RBI, five came with two outs on the board. He had three multi-hit games and three multi-RBI games.
  • The left-handed hitting Dix has had a team-best 11 multi-hit games, including a 4-4 effort on opening day. He also has a team-best seven multi-RBI games.

Scouting Radford

  • Longwood and Radford are meeting for the second of five scheduled contests this spring. The two sides played a midweek game at Radford on March 23, with Radford winning 11-3.
  • Longwood will host the Highlanders later for a three-game weekend series on April 30 and May 1.
  • Radford is coming off of a series win against Winthrop after taking the final two games of the series 11-1 and 6-4 over the weekend. Winthrop won the opening game 9-7 on Friday before Radford swept the doubleheader.
  • Radford has won one other series this season, sweeping High Point in their conference series of the season. Otherwise, the team has lost five of six to USC Upstate, split a pair of games with Presbyterian, beaten UNC Asheville once in three tries and dropped a midweek game to Gardner-Webb. A second series against Presbyterian was postponed.
  • Offensively, Radford is led by Sean Cheely's .302 batting average. Cheely has a team-best 35 hits, 10 doubles and three triples while tying for the team lead in homers (three) and RBI (18).
  • Ten players have at least 10 RBI for Radford, with no player hitting in more than 18. Likewise, nine players have started at least 20 of the team's 29 games.
  • Dadvid Bryant has hit three homers while holding a .281 average with a team-best .421 on-base percentage. Straton Podaras has scored a team-leading 22 runs while batting .255.
  • On the mound, Greg Duncan (4-0, 3.64 ERA), Ryan Bywaters (2-2, 4.10 ERA) and Vinnie Venturi (1-4, 6.21 ERA) have all logged more than six starts. Hunter Williams (1-2, 3.62 ERA) started the team's last midweek game and took the loss after surrendering four runs in two innings to Gardner-Webb.
  • Out of the bullpen, Alex Perkins (1-1, 2.05 ERA, 5 SV) and Bruce Hudson (3-2, 2.62 ERA) have both made a team-leading 12 appearances. Perkins has struck out 27 in 22.0 innings while only giving up six runs on 19 hits and eight walks. Meanwhile, Hudson has fanned 30 in 27.1 innings while giving up 13 runs on 26 hits and 14 walks.
  • Derek Domecq (1-0, 5.54 ERA) has also made 10 appearances out of the bullpen, totaling eight strikeouts in 13.0 innings.
