BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – In their first Big South road dual of 2021, Longwood women's tennis fell 4-0 to Gardner-Webb on Thursday evening at the Webb Tennis Complex in Boiling Springs.
 
After securing the doubles point to begin the match, the Runnin' Bulldogs (4-4, 2-2 Big South) got wins in the No. 3, No. 6, and No. 5 positions to clinch the dual at 4-0, leaving the remaining singles matches unfinished.
 
Elin Hellberg started the singles success for Gardner-Webb, beating Zoe Barton 6-0, 6-2 to extend the Bulldog lead to 2-0. Courtney Fyvie continued the momentum for Gardner-Webb, beating Alexandra Hincu 6-0, 6-2 to pull within a point of victory. Galentine Limauge delivered, beating Longwood's Crystal Nzewi 6-2, 6-2 to clinch the win for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
 
With the match being played to clinch, three singles matches left unfinished for the Lancers (1-5, 0-2 Big South), all of which they lead after one set. Maria Saez held a 6-4, 4-3 edge over Miljana Ristic in the first postion, Emma Nurgazieva won a first set tiebreak to lead 7-6, 0-1 over Manon Delsol, and Adelaide Thuilot took the first set, 7-6 before play was halted as Gardner-Webb reached four points.
 
The Lancers have a quick turnaround, as they will host two matches this weekend starting with Chowan on Saturday, March 13. Play is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
