FARMVILLE, Va. – The Longwood women's tennis team opened up a four-match homestand in style. The Lancers (2-5, 0-2 Big South) earned their second 7-0 sweep of the season, taking down Chowan on Saturday afternoon at the New Lancer Courts.
 
Sophomore Maria Saez and freshman Nina Hederich keyed Longwood, winning their doubles match as well as individual matches. The duo took out Chowan's Anna Karbolina and Julieta Lecce 6-2 in the number two doubles match that helped Longwood earn the doubles point.
 
Chowan's (2-2) battled back to even up the score in doubles, with Olivia Scattini and Valentina Domenicone beating Emma Nurgazieva and Zoe Barton 6-4, but the Lancers took the point by default with no number three doubles team for Chowan.
 
The Lancers cleaned up everything else when it turned to the singles matches, not dropping a set. Longwood freshman Adelaide Thuilot dropped only one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Domenicone in the number three position. Nurgazieva earned her revenge in singles play for the Lancers, finishing off Karbolina 7-5, 6-4 in the second position for her third singles win of 2021.
 
In the number one spot, Saez squeezed past Scattini in a tight first set 7-5 before taking the second set 6-2 to clinch the match for the Lancers. Hederich took care of business against Asuntha Fleming 6-1, 6-2 for her second singles win of the season. Alexandra Hincu rounded out the day for the Lancers with her first singles win as a Lancer, a 6-3, 6-2 win over Lecce.
 
The Lancers turn it right back around for the second of four in a row at home by welcoming North Carolina A & T to the New Lancer Courts on Sunday afternoon. Play is set to begin at 1 p.m.
