FARMVILLE, Va. – Eliot Dix hit the ball all over the yard on opening weekend for Longwood baseball, and the Big South named him the season's first Freshman of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Â
The New Jersey native roared out of the gates and hit .545 (6-11) across three games against The Citadel, powering the Longwood offense with nine RBI, two home runs and a double. He drove in more than 40 percent of the team's runs while also posting a .643 on-base percentage. In addition, he had at least one RBI and base hit in each of the three games.
Â
Friday, The Citadel failed to retire Dix as the returning freshman bashed both of his home runs, the first two of his collegiate career. In the game, he went 4-4 and finished a triple short of the cycle while also drawing an intentional walk in his fifth plate appearance. He posted a career best six RBI in the process, and his first home run, a three-run blast, was also Longwood's first hit of the contest.
Â
In a tight game on Saturday, Dix again delivered a big base hit. This time, he singled in the tying run to even the score two in a game Longwood would go on to win 4-2 in 10 innings. In the series finale, he drove in two more runs.
Â
Dix is the first Lancer freshman to be named Big South Freshman of the Week since right-handed pitcher
Dominick D'Ercole earned the nod on March 9 last season following a 10-strikeout start on the mound.
Â
The Lancers (2-1) play in their home opener tomorrow afternoon, hosting North Carolina Central at 3 p.m. at Buddy Bolding Stadium.
