The Opening Tip:
  • Longwood opens conference play against the 3-7 Aggies of North Carolina A&T who enter their first season in Big South play.
  • Longwood has faced the third-toughest non-conference schedule in the Big South through non-conference play, facing the 73rd toughest schedule in the nation.
  • Under Tarrell Robinson, the Aggies have won three of the last five MEAC conference championships.

By The Numbers:
  • After finishing off a tough non-conference schedule, the Lancers remain at the top in the Big South across numerous statistical categories.  The Lancers lead in blocks (50) and blocks per game (4.5), they rank second in steals (115) and third in offensive scoring (65.5 ppg).
  • The Lancers are now ranked third in assists (136) behind USC Update (168) and Campbell (158).
  • Akila Smith has been one of the top shot blockers in the country this season. She ranks first in the Big South tenth nationally in blocks per game (3.0) and eighth in blocks (33).
  • Tra'Dayja Smith is the leading passer in the Big South, ranking first in the league with a total of 58 assists and 5.3 apg. In addition, Smith is ranked 25th in the country in free-throw percentage, second in the Big South, shooting .906 percent from the free throw line.
  • Kyla McMakin and Akila Smith are ranked third and fourth in the Big South in scoring after their tough non-conference schedule. This is the second straight season the duo are in the top five after the first eleven games. 
  • Kennedy Calhoun has been a menace to opposing guards defensively, and has made a stance for herself going into conference play. Calhoun currently ranks in the fourth slot for steals with 27, averaging 2.45 steals per game in her freshman season.
  • Akila Smith wrote her name in the Longwood record books again with her second career triple double, the third in team history, with a 20-point, 11-rebound, 10-block effort at Sam Houston on Nov. 30.
  • Adriana Shipp also snatched up her second career double-double, first of the new season, with 10 points and 14 rebounds against Drexel.
 
Series History:
  • This meeting will be the first time in history and first time under Coach Tillett where these two teams meet.
  • Previously, the Aggies have been a member in the MEAC, and the team is entering its first season playing in the Big South.
  • North Carolina A&T was ranked in the preseason poll in the fourth position, directly following Longwood in the third ranked spot.
