  • Longwood went 1-1 in the Lone Star State, with a tight win over Lamar and a heartbreaking loss on a buzzer beater at Sam Houston. The team is in the midst of a six-game road swing, their longest of the season.
  • Kyla McMakin had the game high points against the Bearkats with 26, shooting 11-19 from the floor. This was her third time scoring over 20 this season. .
  • Akila Smith has been one of the top players in the Big South, ranking third in scoring (16.5 ppg), fourth in rebounding (7.2 rpg), first in blocks (3.8 bpg) and fourth in steals (2.2 spg).
  • Tra'Dayja Smith leads the nation in assists per game (7.2), and her 43 assists rank ninth nationally.

Last Time Out:
  • A bevy of players made game-changing plays to take down Lamar 62-59 in a back-and-forth game that went down to the wire on Sunday afternoon.
  • Over the course of two games, A. Smith and McMakin combined for 80 total points, accompanied by 11 assists from Tra'Dayja Smith, and an explosive defensive effort by freshman Kennedy Calhoun, who had four steals in both games.
  • Against Lamar, the Lancers won the fourth quarter to earn the road win. The come-from-behind win in the fourth quarter was the team's first since 2016.
 
By the Numbers:
  • Despite a difficult non-conference schedule, Longwood still tanks fourth in the Big South in scoring offense through four games at 66.2 points per game.
  • In Longwood's three-game winning streak, the team relentlessly attacked the paint. The team tallied 123 points in the paint in their wins and are averaging 34.5 points in the paint per game on the season.
  • Longwood also ranks in the top four in scoring points per game (66.2) and in free throw percentage (.743).
  • Kyla McMakin, a two-time All-Big South First Team selection over her first two seasons at Longwood, earned her first Big South Player of the Week honor of the year following a clutch performance in the Lancers first two wins of the season. McMakin is ranked second in the Big South across for scoring with 19.2 ppg.
  • McMakin also became the first Lancer to lead the Big South in scoring in back-to-back seasons. She averaged 18.8 points per game as a freshman and 17.9 per game as a sophomore, both the top mark in the conference.
  • Akila Smith has been one of the top shot blockers in the country this season. Her 3.8 blocks per game are fifth, and she is sixth in total blocks with 23.
  • Smith tallied her second career triple double, and third triple double in team history, with a 20-point, 11-rebound, 10-block effort at Sam Houston. It was the ninth triple-double in the nation this season and only the second that saw a player record 10 blocks.
  • Akila Smith and Kyla McMakin were both selected to the All-Big South Preseason First Team, the first time Longwood has had two players selected to the conference preseason first team.
  • Point guard Tra'Dayja Smith has been one of the top passers not just in the Big South but also the nation. She leads the country with 7.2 assists per game and has had at least five assists in every single game this season. Her 43 assists rank ninth in the nation.
