In the midst of a record-breaking season for the Longwood field hockey program, an additional nine players were honored for their academic achievement and excellence in the classroom with placement on the Academic All-MAC Team.
Led by senior midfielder and four-time All-MAC first team honoree
Luna Lopez, the academic team included senior defender
Rio Weber, senior midfielder
Cammy Toddy, redshirt senior goalkeeper
Madison Nuckols, senior defender
Kolbey Donahue, senior forward
Jamie Wright, sophomore forward/midfielder
Hunter-Paige Johnson, sophomore forward/midfielder
Kate Frey, and sophomore midfielder/defender
Kylie Levine.
The Lancers are coming off a season of firsts and one to be remembered. The team was able to reach the MAC championship game for the first time since joining the conference in 2014. Lopez had a career-best season with eight goals, seven assists, and now adds her fourth Academic All-MAC award to her All-MAC haul.
Toddy has also been as consistent in the classroom as she has made an impact on the field hockey field. This is her fourth straight year earning her way onto the Academic All-MAC team. The senior midfielder has one game-winning goal with three total shots on goal in the 5-1 victory over Ball State.
Wright has earned Academic All-MAC honors for the third time, while teammate Donahue earned it for the second time. Donahue has also been recognized previously as a NFHCA All-Academic Team member. To receive a national academic honor as a junior or senior, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher through the first semester of the current academic year.
Tacking on their first honors on the All-Academic squad are Weber, Levine, Nuckols, Johnson and Frey. Frey also received a national academic honor as a freshman for achieving a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the current academic year.
