The Opening Tip
•   Returning to Willett Hall where they have won two of their past three Big South games, Longwood hosts High Point for a two-game set this Tuesday and Friday.
•   The Lancers are coming off a 78-69 win over Campbell in their last home game and are 2-2 in Big South home games this season. Longwood also topped UNC Asheville 65-55 on Dec. 31, splitting the two-game series with both of those conference rivals.
•   Longwood is 21-15 in Willett Hall under third-year head coach
Griff Aldrich.
•   Longwood has played the most games in the Big South with 14, while High Point has played the second fewest with nine. High Point has not played since Dec. 31 with four consecutive games postponed due to COVID-19 safety and health protocols.
Last Time Out
•   Holding the nation's No. 12 scoring team to its lowest scoring total of the season for a second consecutive game was not enough for Longwood to upset unbeaten Winthrop, as the Eagles countered with a stifling defensive effort to deal the Lancers a 70-50 loss at Winthrop Coliseum.
•   Out-rebounding Longwood 38-27 and converting 17 turnovers into 16 points, the Eagles took charge on their end of the court to extend their winning streak to 18 games and remain one of just four of the nation's unbeaten teams who have played at least 10 games this year.Â
•   Winthrop's Michael Anumba, Adonis Arms and D.J. Burns Jr. all finished in double figures with Arms leading the way with 15 points.Â
•   Longwood got 15 points from
Juan Munoz, who hit 4-of-10 treys, and
Leslie Nkereuwem added 11 points and shot 5-of-5 from the field.
By The Numbers
•   Longwood is among the top three-point defending teams in the Big South, ranking second in the league with a .306 (117-of-382) opponent shooting clip from long range.Â
•   Only one team has shot better than 40.0 percent from beyond the arc against Longwood this season, while nine — including eight in Big South play — have shot under 30.0 percent.
•   Longwood's defense has stepped up in Big South play, surrendering 70 points or fewer in seven of 10 conference games. In conference games, Longwood ranks third with a 67.5 opponent scoring average.
•   Over the past four games, Longwood has faced the Big South's No. 1 and No. 2 scoring offenses — Winthrop (84.1 ppg.) and Campbell (72.3 ppg.) — and held them to a combined 68.8 points per game. Winthrop scored just 72 and 70 points, while Campbell scored just 64 and 69.
•   The Longwood-High Point series will feature two of the league's top freshmen squaring off, as Longwood's
Justin Hill and High Point's Ahmil Flowers enter the game among the league's top-four in freshman scoring and freshman assists.Â
•   Hill is one of two impact freshmen for the Lancers this season, as fellow newcomer
Jesper Granlund is one of only three freshmen in the Big South to have started every game this season, joining High Point's Flowers and Presbyterian's Rayshon Harrison.
•   Of forward
Leslie Nkereuwem's 47 made field goals, 42 have come in the paint. He leads Longwood with 7.0 points in the paint per game and 12 dunks, and has amassed 77.7 percent of his total points there.
•   Nkereuwem has scored in double figures in five of his past six games played, averaging 11.3 points per game in that stretch. He scored in double digits just three times as a true freshman last season.
Quotable
"I asked them, does Winthrop play hard? Do they take plays off? Do they execute poorly? When you make a run at them, how do they respond? I told them that's where we're going. That's where this program is going, and we're going to get there."
 — Longwood head coach
Griff Aldrich following Friday's loss at undefeated Winthrop
Series History
