FARMVILLE, Va. – Sophomore outfielder
Cullan Wadsworth was selected to the Big South All-Academic Team for the 2020 season, the Big South conference office announced today.
The sophomore crushed it in the classroom and on the diamond in a 2020 season that was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The kinesiology major holds a 3.39 cumulative GPA and has been named to the Dean's List twice in his young Longwood career that has seen him start 52 times, including all 10 games he played and started this spring.
He was a holy terror in the batter's box to opposing pitching staffs in 2020. He would have ranked in the top 10 in the Big South in four categories. His 15 runs scored were tied for third and came on only 15 hits. He was tied for the league lead with three triples, and his .366 batting average ranked seventh. Seven of his 15 hits went for extra bases, giving him the second-best slugging percentage in the Big South at .659.
He finished the shortened season with three doubles and a homer in addition to his triples. He had five multi-hit games and scored multiple runs six different times. Plus, the lefty slugger added nine RBI and stole a pair of bases in addition to posting a perfect fielding percentage in the outfield.
Through his first two seasons, Wadsworth holds a .262 batting average while swatting three homers, five triples and nine doubles. The left-handed slugger has driven in 21 runs while scoring 34 times. His five career triples mean he is only three shy of cracking the top 10 in the Lancer record books.
Wadsworth heads into next season as one of 22 returning underclassmen for the Lancers.
