Kyla McMakin Being Introduced at Willett Hall
The Opening Tip
•   Longwood returns to Willett Hall on a positive note after picking up their third Big South Conference victory on the road, sweeping the season series against UNC Asheville, 54-51.Â
•   All-Big South forward Dayna Rouse scored her 1,000 career point against the Bulldogs. Rouse becomes the 22nd Lancer to score 1,000 points Longwood.
•   The Lancers are wearing black uniforms, and the first 300 Lancer fans will receive black pom-poms to match!Â
•   Head coach Rebecca Tillett and the Lancers are two Big South victories away from matching a program-best eight conference victories, with nine conference matchups left on the schedule in 2020.Â
•   A win against Presbyterian would be the second for the Lancers against the Blue Hose and the second Big South series sweep of the season for the Lancers. Longwood defeated the Blue Hose on their floor 71-60 on January 4.
Last Time Out
•   Four Lancers finished in double-figures sparking a second-half comeback that saw Longwood erase a 16 point deficit to defeat UNC Asheville on their home court, 54-51.Â
•   Senior Dayna Rouse and freshman Kyla McMakin paced the Lancers offense with 14 points in Longwood's sixth Big South victory of the 2019-2020 season.Â
•   Dayna Rouse's first basket of the second etched Rouse's name into the Longwood record book as the 22nd Lancer to record 1,000 career points.Â
•   Junior Tra'Dayja Smith and freshman Anne-Hamilton LeRoy joined Rouse and McMakin finishing with double-figure scoring performances. Smith added a game-best five assists to compliment her 13 point performance in the win.
By the Numbers
•   Longwood's offense continues to be one of the best in the Big South Conference. The Lancers lead the conference in field goal percentage converting on .404 percent of their shots, while ranking second in the league in scoring, averaging 66.0 points per game.Â
•    Offense is not all the Lancers bring to the court, Longwood's defense is a shot-blocking force. The Lancers lead the Big South averaging 5.7 blocks per game, and for the sixth time in 12 seasons Longwood has recorded 100+ blocks in a season.Â
•   The Lancers are not a team you want to give opportunities at the free-throw line. Longwood is the second in the Big South shooting .732 from the charity stripe, converting 243 of their 332 free throws on the season.Â
•   The duo of All-Big South Dayna Rouse and the frontrunner for Big South Freshman of the Year Kyla McMakin are responsible for a majority the offensive success the Lancers have experienced this season. McMakin has made an immediate impact in the Big South in her freshman campaign, ranking second in scoring at 16.9 points per game. Rouse averages 15.4 points per game and ranks third in the league. Longwood joins High Point as the only two programs in the Big South with two women in the top-five in league scoring.Â
•   A five-tool player is rare, but Longwood has one in Dayna Rouse. Rouse finds herself in the top-10 in the Big South in scoring (15.4), rebounding (7.3), double-doubles (6) FG% (.532), blocks (2.0), steals (1.7), and minutes played (33.2).    Â
•   Junior Tra'Dayja Smith has a knack for distributing the ball and finding the open Lancer. Smith leads the Big South and ranks eighth in Division I in assists, distributing an average of 6.4 assists per game.Â
•   Blocks are a common theme for the Lancers' defense. Dayna Rouse leads the team with 40 on the season, as sophomore Akila Smith has 39 looking to regain the top spot. Rouse's 40 blocks this season brings her career total to 111 blocks, moving her into third all-time in the women's basketball record book.Â
•   Playing as a freshman is hard to do, but making an immediate impact as a freshman is rare, having two freshmen doing both is unheard of, but the pair of Kyla McMakin and Anne-Hamilton LeRoy are doing just that for the Lancers. McMakin and LeRoy are two of the four freshmen in the Big South, averaging double-digit scoring performances for their respected programs. McMakin leads all freshmen in scoring, and LeRoy is the third-highest scoring freshmen in the Big South, averaging 11.2 points per game. LeRoy ranks ninth in Big South Conference games in field goal percentage converting on .409 percent of her shots taken in league play.
