BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Senior Amadeo Blasco continued to strengthen his hold on Longwood's all-time singles wins record, but perennial Big South contender Campbell overcome his latest singles victory and that of Lancer freshman Ernest Rocabert to take down Longwood 5-2 in the Big South opener Thursday afternoon at Nisbet Tennis Center.
 
Blasco grinded out a three-set win at No. 2, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3, over Bastien Huon, and Rocabert added a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3 over Mikael Rodriguez, but the Fighting Camels made up for those defeats with wins at the remaining lines.
 
Two of Campbell's four singles wins came in three-set comebacks, as Ondrej Labik bounced back from a first-set loss to overcome Lancer freshman Ignacio Sandoval 3-6, 7-6, 10-7 at No. 3. That win followed a match-clinching win at No. 4 in which Gustavs Lukstins bounced back from a first-set sweep to overcome Lancer sophomore Guillermo Cagigas 0-6, 6-1, 6-0.
 
Lukstins' win at No. 4 secured the Big South triumph for the Fighting Camels (3-2, 1-0 Big South) before Robin Angles added another point with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Longwood's Marc Casasnovas at No. 5. Blasco salvaged the day with his three-set win at No. 2 to send of the Lancers with their final singles win of the day.
 
Campbell ace Raphael Calzi also outdueled Longwood frontrunner Guilherme Sergio 6-4, 6-4 in a victory that immediately followed Rocabert's win at No. 6.
 
The defeat comes in Longwood's final road game of the month, as the Lancers (4-4, 0-1 Big South) follow by hosting five consecutive home matches at Lancer Courts. The first of those is set for this Sunday, March 1, against Mount St. Mary's.
