FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood baseball southpaw
Andrew Melnyk has pitched 66 innings in his first two seasons as a Lancer, notching 54 strikeouts. The Virginia Beach, Va. native sat down to answer some fun questions in this week's Lancer Spotlight, presented by Hercules Tires.
What is your favorite thing about Longwood?
"I have to say my favorite thing about Longwood is the staff. I think that the professors truly care about each and every one of us. I think having a smaller class size allows them to know us on a more personal level which I don't think we would get at a bigger school."
Â
Favorite play?
"I think my favorite would be a sneak pick to first where there is a runner on second. When I lift my leg, the first basemen would crash to first to try to backside the guy at first, but it is only my favorite if it works."
Â
What is a favorite memory playing at Longwood so far?
"From a team perspective, one of my favorite memories was when Looney hit the walk off homerun or when Mike Peterson threw a kid out at home from center field."
Â
What is your go to TV show or movie?
"My go to TV show has to be the office; movie would be stepbrothers for sure."
Â
Favorite office character?
"I like the Dwight Schrute/Jim Halpert relationship because it reminds me of me and my buddies just messing around all the time."
Â
If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you do?
"First thing for sure, I would have to take care of my parents because they've done a lot for me, so I'd have to repay them in some way."
Â
Who is your biggest role model?
"My high school baseball coach because he is a paraplegic so seeing what he does every day is inspiring and reminds me how grateful we should be for everything we have because you never know when you're going to lose that. Just watching him do what he does, gives me the extra motivation."
Â
Any fun facts people don't know about you?
"I like to clean; I am very weird. I get like in the zone if I see a mess. I also really like Lebron James."
Â
First thing you'd want to do if elected to the President's office?
"I'd want to explore the White House and look at the book of secrets because they definitely have a book of secrets."
