The Opening Tip

• Women's Hoop Dirt selected head coach Rebecca Tillett as the National Coach of the Week after a dominant win over Big South rival Gardner-Webb that extended Longwood's winning streak to three games. 

• Longwood puts their three-game winning streak on the line with the hope of extending the streak to four games for the first time since February 24, 2008, when the Lancers picked up their fourth-straight win of the season against Presbyterian College. 

• Longwood is the No. 2 scoring team in the Big South at 66.4 points per game and leads the conference in both field goal percentage (.406) and blocks per game (5.6).

• With a win today the Lancers have the opportunity to begin Big South Conference play 2-0 for the second time in program history. 

Last Time Out

• Led by 26 points from  Dayna Rouse, four Lancers scored in double figures to lead Longwood to an 80-70 win over Gardner-Webb in the Big South opener in Willett Hall on December 28. 

• The win was Longwood's first in a Big South opener since the 2012-13 season, and saw the Lancers lead for all but 37 seconds of the game.

• Longwood was equally dominant on the defensive end, recording eight blocks for the third time this season along with a season-high 14 steals.

• The win extends Longwood's win streak to three straight and improves the Lancers to 4-1 on their home court. 


By The Numbers

• Averaging 66.4 points per game Longwood ranks second in the Big South Conference in scoring offense with efficiency at the key to the Lancers success. Longwood leads the conference in field goal percentage at .406 per game.  

• Offense is not the only threat Longwood has for opponents. The Lancers not only lead the conference in blocks per game but are 19th in Division I, averaging 5.6 blocks per game

• Dayna Rouse leads the Big South in field goal percentage (.600) and ranks in the top 10 in the conference in points per game (15.5), rebounds per game (6.6), blocks (1.5), and free throw percentage (.738).

• Kyla McMakin is within 0.9 points per game of becoming the leading scorer for the Big South as McMakin ranks second in the conference at16.2 points per game.    

• Junior Tra'Dayja Smith contniues her ascent up the Division I statistical leaderboard as Smith finds herself 6th in the nation averaging 6.1 assists per game. 

• Akila Smith has shown that her ability on the defensive side of the ball is here to stay for the Lancers, coming off her second game of the season with five blocks, Smith raised her average  to 17th in Division I to 2.7 blocks per game 

• The Freshman duo of Kyla McMakin and Anne-Hamilton LeRoy have contribute an average of 25.6 of Longwood's 66.4 points per game.

Series History

• Longwood travels to Clinton, S.C. looking to avenge the 2018-2019 season when the Blue Hose swept the Lancers in the programs two meetings.    

• The last trip to Presbyterian saw Dayna Rouse (16) and Akila Smith (10) lead the Lancers offense that fell to the Blue Hose, 81-66

• A victory against Presbyterian would be the first victory against the Blue Hose for Head Coach Rebecca Tillett, and the first for Longwood since February 2018.
