College Sports Madness Honors Smith as Mid-Major Big South Player of the Week

FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood junior Tra'Dayja Smith was named College Sports Madness Mid-Major Conference Player of the Week for the Big South Conference by collegesportsmadness.com after her historical performance this week for the Lancers. 
 
Tra'Dayja Smith etched her name in the history books at Longwood as the first Lancer in the Division I era to record a triple-double. Smith finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists in the 84-64 victory against the Buccaneers of Charleston Southern. 
 
Smith became only the NCAA's 12th player to record a triple-double this season and the first in the Big South Conference since March 4, 2014. 
 
Smith, throughout three Big South games in six days averaged 10.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game in a week where the Lancers secured their fourth Big South Victory of the season, doubling the 2018-19 season total with 15 conference game remaining on the schedule. 
 
Smith opened the week against Campbell with what was a career-best nine rebounds and added five points and three assists against the best-ranked defense in the Big south. Longwood scored four points higher than Campbell allows opponents on average but the Fighting Camels handed Longwood their only loss of the week, 70-55. 

 Smith and the Lancers bounced back against Charleston Southern as the Buccaneers did not have an answer for Smith as she assisted on Longwood's first five baskets of the game. Smith finished with Longwood's first triple-double of the Division I era with 12 points, 10 assists, and 10 rebounds as Longwood defended home court, improving to 5-2 inside Willett Hall after defeating the Buccaneers, 84-64. 
 
On the road against USC Upstate, Smith for the second-straight game scored in double-digits with 14 points in Longwood's 70-62 victory over the Spartans. Smith added to her offensive performance distributing six assists and gathering five rebounds as the Lancers improved to 4-1 in Big South play.
 
On the season, Smith leads the Big South and ranks seventh in Division I averaging 6.1 assists per game. Smith ranks fifth in the conference in assists to turnover ratio with 86 assists on the year to only 61 turnovers.
 
Smith is the second Lancer to be awarded Madness Mid-Major Conference Player of the Week for the Big South Conference joining Dayna Rouse, who received the honor November 18. 
 
Smith and the Lancers return to action Tuesday, January 14, against Radford University as Longwood hosts "Education Day" and attempts to break the single-game attendance record. Tipoff between the Lancers and Highlanders is set for 11 a.m
