Lancers Drop Midweek Twin Bill to No. 24 Virginia Tech

Jordan Clark Extends Hit Streak to 18 Games in 6-0, 8-5 Losses

BLACKSBURG, Va. – In a matchup that featured 2019 Big South regular season champion Longwood and the ACC regular season champion Virginia Tech, the 24th-ranked Hokies earned a pair of wins in a doubleheader sweep over Longwood Tuesday afternoon at Tech Softball Park.

Carrie Eberle used a dominant pitching performance in game one in a 6-0 shutout before Virginia Tech took advantage of four Longwood miscues in game two en route to a 8-5 win.

The wins for Virginia Tech (45-8) hand the program its fourth-most win in its history and the most since the 2012 season, as Longwood (34-18) has won four of the last seven meetings between the two teams.

"We played a good team who has had a very successful season," said Longwood head coach Kathy Riley. "[Virginia Tech] hurt us with the home runs today. They took advantage of our mistakes, scoring eight runs on six hits. Other than that, I felt that we pitched well at times and made some nice defensive plays."

Alexis Wayland led the way for Longwood at the plate throughout the day with three hits over the two games. With the performance, Wayland has collected hits in eight of the last 10 games. Jordan Clark extended her hit streak to 18 straight games with a single in game one before hitting her seventh home run of the season in game two. Karleigh Donovan also reached in both games of the day.

Longwood will conclude its 2019 regular season Saturday, May 4 at Liberty. First pitch from Lynchburg, Va., is set for 2 p.m.
