Lancers Fall 4-3 to Presbyterian at Lancer Courts

FARMVILLE, Va.-- On a sunny Saturday afternoon at Lancer Courts, the Longwood men's tennis team rallied from an early deficit but fell in the final singles bout to suffer a 4-3 defeat at the hands of rival Presbyterian at Lancer Courts.
The Blue Hose (8-11, 3-2 Big South) clinched the victory in a winner-take-all final singles match at No. 6 in which Presbyterian's Jonathan Bedard defeated Longwood's Rosen Naydenov 7-5, 6-3.
That clinch derailed a comeback effort from the Lancers (10-6, 1-3 Big South), who bounced back from a 1-0 deficit to take a 3-2 lead with singles wins from Amadeo Blasco, Guillermo Cagigas and Raisei Sakai.
However, Max Benson tied the match for the Blue Hose before Bedard locked it up.
With the Lancers trailing 1-0 heading into singles play, Blasco picked up his part by defeating Daniel Stenger 6-3, 6-2. That win was Blasco's team-leading 11th win of the season and the 72nd of his career.0
Bouncing back from an injury, sophomore Marc Casanovas returned to the court, but ultimately fell to Conde 6-4, 6-2 as Presbyterian took a lead on the Lancers 2-1.
The Lancers came back and tied 2-2 with Cagigas' win on court three as he defeated Alvarez 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. However, the battle continued as Benson won against Sergio on court two 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
Sakai advanced over Castillo Lopez 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 tying the match 3-3. For the sixth time this season, the Lancers were dependent on the final match of the day. Unfortunately, that final match went against Naydenov, as he fell to Bedard 7-5, 6-3.
The Lancers will now look to rebound on Sunday at Lancer Courts at 11 a.m. against UNC Asheville.
