The Opening Tip

• Longwood travels to the coast of Maryland to matchup against the Hawks of Maryland Eastern Shore, seeking their first victory of the season away from Willett Hall.  

• The Lancers and Hawks competed in 2018-2019 with Longwood coming away with the win over Maryland Eastern Shore, 83-71.

• Today signifies the end of non-conference for Longwood, as they look to enter conference play with the most non-conference victories since the 2012-2013 team won six non-conference games. 

• Freshman Kyla McMakin has honored with her second Big South Freshman of the Week for her performance in the victory against Delaware State. McMakin finished with 20-points and was one rebound shy of her first collegiate double-double.


Last Time Out

• Longwood protected Willett Hall against the Hornets of Delaware State with a 78-62 victory as the Lancers captured their third win of the season.  

• Kyla McMakin scored or assisted on the final ten points of the third quarter for the Lancers to give Longwood a six-point lead over Delaware State, as Longwood began a 23-9 run over the last 11 minutes of action.

• Freshman Anne-Hamilton LeRoy and junior Tra'Dayja Smith combined for 14-points in the final quarter to seal the victory for the Lancers. LeRoy finished with 14 points, and Smith capped off a nine-point performance with a game-high seven assists.

 
By The Numbers  

• Longwood's presence on defense remains one of the best in the Big South with the Lancers leading the conference in blocked shots per game (5.25), and third in allowed field goal percentage (.384)

• Tra'Dayja Smith's seven assists in the victory over the Hornets moved Smith to 11th in Division I, averaging 6.3 assists per game. Smith has led the Lancer offense in assists every game this season, with a season-best nine assists coming against Wofford College. 

• Sophomore Akila Smith continues to lead the Big South in blocks with 18 blocks on the season as well as blocks per game, averaging 2.25 BPG on the season. 

• The Lancers offense remains efficient as well ranking fifth in the Big South in points per game (64.1) and field goal percentage (.392)

• Freshman Kyla McMakin captured her second Freshman of the Week honor on Dec. 16. McMakin is the first Lancer to receive the recognition twice in the same season since the 2012-2013 season when Daeisha Brown won Freshman of the week back-to-back.

• The Lancers have made vast improvements in all facets of their game, including improvement of 13.1 points per game in their scoring margin through the first seven contests of the year. Through seven games in the 2018-2019 season, the Lancers score margin was -18.0 points per game. At the same point in the 2019-2020 season, the Lancers have a score margin of -4.9.

Series History

• Longwood travels to UMES for the first time since 2007 when the Lancers defeated the Hawks 43-42.    

• The Lancers, victorious in the 2018-2019 matchup, look to extend the winning steak against UMES to two games, and even the series at three games apiece.  

• Dayna Rouse led the Lancer offense with 22-points in the previous matchup. Rouse added to her offensive performance with five rebounds and three steals.
