The Opening Tip

• Longwood returns to Willett Hall seeking to improve on their 2-1 start to the season on Jerome Kersey Court as the Hornets of Delaware State. 

• The Lancers take the floor against Delaware State after a break of ten days, and for the third time in 19-days. After a start to the season where Longwood played four games in ten days.

• Senior Dayna Rouse leads the Big South in field goal percentage with a clip of .597 from the court while ranking fourth in the conference averaging 15.7 points per game.

• Following Sunday's game, Longwood will have one non-conference game left on the schedule before the start of Big South Conference play on December 28 against Gardner-Webb.

Last Time Out

• Longwood made the trip East to Norfolk, Virginia to take on the Spartans of Norfolk State. Despite an early advantage, the Lancers fell to Norfolk State, 49-46. Longwood's third loss by three-points consecutively. 

•  Senior Dayna Rouse used a 21-point performance on 9-of-13 shooting to pass 800-career points in her Lancer career. Rouse padded her stat line with six rebounds and three blocks.

• Freshman Kyla McMakin joined Rouse as the only Lancers to score in double-figures with eleven points. Adding to her performance, McMakin battled for eight rebounds, while recording a career-high five steals. 

 
By The Numbers  

• The Lancers continue to lead the Big South Conference in blocks with 36 on the season, averaging 5.14 blocks per game, a staggering 1.25 blocks per game higher than the rest of the Big South.

• Efficiency on offense has Longwood ranked 5th in the Big South in field-goal percentage with the team converting on .387 of their shots taken.

• Sophomore Akila Smith used a career-high five blocks against Norfolk State to propel Smith to the top of the Big South with 14 blocks on the season, averaging a Big South best 2.0 blocks per game. 

• Longwood ranks third in the Big South as a defensive unit, holding opponents to a field-goal percentage of .391 on the season. 

• Junior Tra'Dayja Smith continues her impressive start as the leading distributor for the Lancers. Smith ranks 13th in the nation averaging 6.1 assists per game while leading the Big South with 43 assists on the year.

• The Lancers have made vast improvements in all facets of their game, including improvement of 10.1 points per game in their scoring margin through the first seven contests of the year. Through seven games in the 2018-2019 season, the Lancers score margin was -18.0 points per game. At the same point in the 2019-2020 season, the Lancers have a score margin of -7.9.

• Freshman Kyla McMakin ranks tenth in the Big South in points per game, averaging 14.3 points per game, McMakin is also performing on the defensive side of the ball ranking 5th in steals in the Big South with 2.1 steals per game.

Series History

• Longwood welcomes the Hornets to Willett Hall for the second time in series history between the two programs.   

• Delaware State captured the victory in the last meeting, but the Lancers' lone win in the series came in the comforts of Willett Hall. 

• Mallory Odell paced the Lancers offense in 2017 meeting. Odell finished with 12-points, six rebounds, and two steals.
