The Opening Tip
•   100 years of history will be on display during the opening tip, as Longwood opens the season against JMU, as they did in 1920.    
•    The Rebecca Tillett Era enters the second season, as the first full recruiting class brings in seven newcomers that include four freshmen and three juniors.
•    Dayna Rouse enters the season as one of the best in the Big South, after being named to the Preseason All-Big South first-team. Rouse averaged 14.4 points and 5.7 rebounds in        her first season under Tillett. Rouse is the first Lancer to earn Preseason All-Big South first-team honors. 
•    Longwood returns six letter winners from the 2018-2019 team, headlined by All-Big South forward Dayna Rouse. Joining Rouse, are fellow seniors, Khaila Hall and Jada Russell. Junior Mallory Odell, who led the team in rebounding as a sophomore, and sophomores Milou Vennema and Akila Smith all return for the 2019-2020 season. 
•    Tillett made two additions to her coaching staff, tabbing former ACC Tournament champion and Duke standout, Ka'lia Johnson as an assistant coach. Tillett also secured Old Dominion graduate Christy Jordan, who will serve as Director of Basketball Operations.  
•    Tip-off Wednesday signifies the start of the Longwood's 13th season in the Division I rank and the 11th time that the Lancers have opened on the road. Longwood is 1-11 in season openers in the Division I era. 
 
By The Numbers
•    The Lancers are in their 13th season in the Division I era and eighth season as a full member of the Big South Conference. 
•    Longwood enters its second season under the direction head coach Rebecca Tillett. She came to Longwood after spending the four seasons at the United States Naval Academy, helping the Midshipmen to back-to-back 20-win seasons.
•    Headlined by All-Big South forward Dayna Rouse, Longwood returns six letter winners from the 2018-2019 team. Rouse finished last season averaging 14.4 points and 5.7 rebounds while finishing 23rd in the nation and among the best in the Big South with a .565 field goal percentage.    
•    Four starters off last season's team and five of its top seven scorers return to Longwood. In addition to returning Milou Vennema, who started five games and appeared in eighteen games for the Lancers, Jada Russell returns with eight games of experience for Longwood.
•    Longwood welcomes the additions of seven newcomers to the program in Tillett's first full recruiting class. The quartet of Anne-Hamilton Leroy, Kyla McMakin, Tayonna Robertson, and Adriana Shipp. A trio of juniors makes up the remaining of the recruiting class, including Allysah "Cookie" Booth, Andrijana Relijic, and Tra'Dayja Smith.
 
Series History
•    Longwood heads into Wednesday's game looking to end a nine-game skid against the Dukes. 
•    Longwood last defeated JMU on February 6, 1978, in a 74-70 victory in Harrisonburg, Virginia. 
•    The most recent meeting between the two schools came inside the Convocation Hall, where the Dukes earned an 88-30 victory.
