CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Longwood senior
Amadeo Blasco's journey through the 2019 ITA Atlantic Regional tournament ended in the round of 32 Saturday at the hands of Old Dominion's Luca Maldoner, who took down the Lancer ace 6-4, 6-2.
The defeat spoiled Blasco's potential return to the tournament's round of 16, which he reached as a junior in the 2018 tournament. Blasco, the No. 13 overall seed in the regional bracket, earned first and second-round byes this year to advance to the round of 64 and took down William & Mary's Oren Vasser 6-3, 6-2, Friday to move on to the round of 32.
Blasco was one of two Lancers to reach the ITA Regional round of 64 this year, joining fellow top-of-the-lineup stalwart
Guilherme Sergio, who won both of his opening-day bouts.
In total, Longwood went 5-4 in singles at the tournament and also picked up a pair of doubles wins in the consolation round.
With the ITA Atlantic Regional in the rearview, Longwood will now prepare for next weekend's Big South Fall Invitational, which will take place on Oct. 25-27 in Clinton, S.C., at Presbyterian College. The Lancers will wrap up their 2019 fall slate on Nov. 8-10 at the Flames Invitational in Lynchburg, Va.
