The Opening Tip
•   Longwood takes the court for the second time in less than 48 hours Saturday, hosting Charleston Southern at 3 p.m. in Willett Hall. The window is the shortest rest period the Lancers have faced since playing three games in three days at the Elgin Baylor Classic in Seattle.
•   Following Thursday's 67-62 win over UNC Asheville, Longwood is 7-0 at home under first-year head coach
Griff Aldrich. That home start is the program's best since the 1993-94 Lancers went a perfect 13-0 at home.
•   Also with the win over the Bulldogs, Longwood improved to 5-1 in games following a loss. The Lancers have lost back-to-back games just once all season.
•   Redshirt senior guard
Isaiah Walton is just seven points shy of reaching 1,000 for his career. He would become only the seventh Lancer to reach that mark in the 15-year Division I era.
Last Time Out
•  Â
Shabooty Phillips scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half, and Longwood pulled away from UNC Asheville 67-62 to give first-year head coach
Griff Aldrich his first Big South win Thursday evening in Willett Hall.
•   In a game that saw 11 lead changes and neither team lead by more than six points for the duration, the backcourt put Longwood over the top with a combined 43 points, including 14 by Phillips, 12 by
Isaiah Walton and 11 from
Jaylon Wilson.
•   With a 63-62 lead in the final minute, Longwood won the final three possessions on both sides of the ball.
Damarion Geter blocked a potential go-ahead layup with 1:04 remaining, Phillips sank a layup that extended the lead to 65-62 with 28 seconds to play, and Walton grabbed a rebound on DeVon Baker's missed layup with 11 seconds left.
•   The win was Longwood's first over Asheville since the 2013 Big South Championship quarterfinals.
By The Numbers
•   Longwood is unbeaten in Willett Hall this season, posting a 7-0 record.
•   In those seven home wins, Longwood has outscored the opposition by 15.8 points per game and has outrebounded them by 5.0 boards per game.
•   Five Lancers average double-digit scoring at home this season:
Isaiah Walton (14.5 ppg.),
Shabooty Phillips (13.9),
Jaylon Wilson (12.7),
JaShaun Smith (12.4) and Sean Flood (10.0)
•   Longwood is 5-1 in games following a loss this season and has outscored those five opponents by an average of 7.5 points per game.
•   Of
Shabooty Phillips' four 20-point games this season, three have come in games following a loss. In his six games after a loss, Phillips averages a team-high 16.7 points per game and 6.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
•   Longwood is 5-0 this season and 11-8 all-time when
Isaiah Walton scores at least 20 points. Walton has scored at least 20 points in five of his eight games this season.
•   Walton is just seven points away from becoming the 22nd 1,000-point scorer in program history. Originally a transfer from UC Davis and Iowa Western, he has done so in just three seasons and 65 games at Longwood and would be only the seventh player in Longwood's 15-year Division I era to reach that mark.
•   Longwood's bench has contributed 25.2 points per game, or 36.1 percent of Longwood's total scoring.
•   Of Longwood's 50 double-digit scoring games this season, 15 have come from players off the bench.
•   Of the 18 new head Division I coaches who inherited teams that won single-digit games last year, only
Griff Aldrich and Pitt's Jeff Capel (11-4) have winning percentages above .500.
•  Â
Damarion Geter needs just three blocks to become the fourth player in program history with 100.
Quotable
"We just didn't want to lose again. We didn't want to keep making the same mistakes [we did against Radford] over and over, so we had to change our mentality."
— Junior forward
JaShaun Smith following Longwood's 67-62 win over UNC Asheville Thursday
