FARMVILLE, Va. – Experience paid dividends for the Longwood women's basketball team Saturday afternoon inside Willett Hall.
Behind 198 combined games of experience, Longwood's two most seasoned players –
Autumn Childress and
Micaela Ellis – carried the Lancers with a combined 36 points to a 57-50 overtime victory over Campbell, as the surging Lancers have now won two of their last three games.
"We don't have very many games left, so we know that it's on our shoulders to put the team in the best position to win," Childress said of her and Ellis stepping up to lead the Lancers. Â
Childress enjoyed her Big South-leading 10th double-double of the season with 21 points and 14 rebounds, while Ellis added 12 for her second straight game in double figures after pouring in a career-high 17 points just five days ago at Gardner-Webb. Childress and Ellis combined for 17 points in the fourth quarter and overtime to hand the Lancers their first victory in the extra period since the 2008-09 season.

Redshirt sophomore
Kate Spradlin added seven points, including five in the overtime period, while redshirt junior
Kristina Antonenko chipped in five points and five rebounds in 24 minutes.
"When we follow the game plan and play as a team, we give ourselves a chance to win," said Longwood head coach
Bill Reinson. "Today, we were very resilient. We lost the lead a couple of times, but we never lost our focus."
Longwood was able to overcome a stingy Campbell (13-12, 6-8 Big South) defense that came into the day ranked third in the NCAA allowing opponents just 52.4 points per game. The Fighting Camels also got 18 points from Summer Price and a near triple-double of 14 points, nine rebounds and eight blocks from Kyra Davis.
However, Longwood displayed a stingy defense of its own, limiting the Camels to .327 (16-of-49)Â shooting from the floor. That defensive performance gives Longwood its top] two defensive performances of the season in back-to-back games.
"Our defensive effort, especially in the first half, was outstanding," Reinson said. "Campbell is an extremely good defensive team, but we found a way to scratch out enough points to win."

With her 10th double-double of the season, Childress moves to within one of matching the 11 double-double performances from
Chelsea Coward had during the 2012-13 season. Longwood's second player this season to eclipse the 20-point mark in a game, Childress' 21-point night was just one shy of her career-high of 22 points.
"Rebounding is all about heart, and rebounding is one of my biggest contributions to the team," Childress said. "I know that every time we go out there, that's what I have to do for us to be successful."
Childress, who is averaging 10.9 rebounds per game, had her sixth game of the season with at least 14 boards. She also added added two assists and two steals in a career-best 42 minutes on the court.
"Autumn played one of her best games of the season," Reinson said. "She was aggressive offensively and did a terrific job rebounding."

Childress' classmate Ellis added 15 points, including eight in the third quarter, to secure her ninth game of the season in double figures and third straight. Longwood's lone captain this season, Ellis' three-pointer with 1:36 on the clock gave the Lancers the lead for good, as her trey and five points in the final minute of play from Spradlin iced the game for the Lancers.
"Micaela and Kate made two huge three-point shots that put us ahead to stay," Reinson said.
With four games remaining in the regular season, Longwood looks to win for the third time in four games Tuesday, Feb. 20 at Radford. That game is set for a 7 p.m. opening tip inside the Dedmon Center.
