The Opening Tip
•   Longwood concludes its three-day gauntlet at the Elgin Baylor Classic Sunday against host Seattle after splitting the first two games of the tournament. The Lancers defeated Fairfield 67-65 Friday and fell to Denver 64-62 Saturday.
•   The loss against Denver was only Longwood's second of the season as part of the program's best start of the Division I era. The last time the Lancers won at least five of their first seven games came in 2002-03.
•   Longwood's two losses this season have both been by one possession. Those defeats — 42-39 at Charlotte and 64-62 versus Denver — have been by just five combined points.
•   Longwood head coach
Griff Aldrich's 5-2 start is tied for the third-best of any first-year coach at Longwood, trailing only Dr. Ron Bash (1978-79) and Ron Carr's (1990-91) 6-1 starts and matching Cal Luther's (1981-82) 5-2 start.
Last Time Out
•   Ronnie Harrell Jr. scored a game-high 23 points and hit 3-of-4 free throws in the closing seconds to send Denver to a 64-62 win over comeback-minded Longwood Saturday on the second day of the Elgin Baylor Classic at the RedHawk Center.
•   Harrell carried Denver's offense throughout the game, hitting six three-pointers and dishing six assists to help the Pioneers survive a second-half rally in which Longwood trimmed a 13-point deficit to pull back to one point with 14 seconds to play.
 •  Â
Juan Munoz's long three-pointer with 48 seconds to play cut Denver's lead to three, and
Spencer Franklin followed with back-to-back layups to cut it to one with 14 seconds to play. Harrell responded to each of Franklin's scores with back-to-back trips to the line where he converted 3-of-4 free throws on the Pioneers' final two possessions.
•   Munoz scored a career-high 12 points and swiped a pair of steals in 16 minutes against Denver.
By The Numbers
•   Longwood is 5-2 for the first time in the program's 15-year Division I era. The last time the Lancers won at least five of their first seven games came in 2002-03 when they started 5-2 en route to a 15-14 record. The Lancers have won at least five of their first seven games 11 times in program history with eight of those seasons resulting in final records over .500.
•   Of the 55 new Division I head coaches in 2017-18, Longwood's
Griff Aldrich is tied for the second-most wins with five. Of the 17 new head coaches with a winning record, Aldrich is one of only five who inherited a team that won single-digit games last season.
•   Longwood's two losses this season have both been by one possession — 42-39 at Charlotte and 64-62 versus Denver. Longwood is 2-2 in games decided by one possession this season with wins of 66-63 over Maryland-Eastern Shore and 67-65 against Fairfield.
•   After beginning his Division I career 0-of-7 from three-point range, junior transfer guard Seán Flood is 10-of-20 from beyond the arc in his past five outings. Two of those games have seen him hit four three-pointers.
•   Longwood has outrebounded all seven opponents this season and boast a Big South-leading +6.4 rebounding margin.
•   With four straight 20-point games to start the season
Isaiah Walton became Longwood's first player to score at least 20 points in his first four games in the program's 15 years as a Division I institution.
•   Longwood has not allowed a dunk this season, while racking up 17 of their own.
JaShaun Smith leads the team with seven, while
Isaiah Walton has four and
Spencer Franklin three.
•   Point guard Lorenzo "Shabooty" Phillips leads Longwood with 26 assists this season, 21 of which have come on made three-pointers.
