The Opening Tip
•    Longwood opens the three-game Elgin Baylor Classic this Friday, Nov. 23, against Fairfield. The Lancers will also face Denver Saturday and host Seattle Sunday.
•    At 4-1, Longwood is off to the program's best start of the Division I era and one of the best openings in school history.
•    Longwood's last season winning at least four of their first five games came in 2000-01 when the Lancers started the year 7-0 en route to a 23-8 season and the NCAA Division II Tournament.
•    Of the 55 new Division I head coaches in 2017-18, Longwood's Griff Aldrich is tied for the fourth-most wins with four. Of the 29 new head coaches with a winning record, Aldrich is one of only five who inherited a team that won single-digit games last season.
•    Longwood University President W. Taylor Reveley IV and Fairfield head coach Sydney Johnson graduated one year apart at Princeton — Reveley in 1996 and Johnson in 1997. Both were student-athletes with Reveley on the football team and Johnson on the basketball team.

Last Time Out
•    Malik Martin scored 17 points to power Charlotte to a 42-39 comeback win over Longwood Monday evening at Halton Arena, snapping the Lancers' season-opening four-game win streak and dealing them their first loss under head coach Griff Aldrich.
•    Martin scored seven of his 10 points in the second half to spark the 49ers to a second-half rally in which they outscored Longwood 27-20 to overcome an 11-point deficit.
•    Charlotte forward Dravon Magnum added nine points and a team-high 10 rebounds to help overcome a Longwood defense that held Charlotte to .262 (11-of-42) from the field and forced 17 turnovers.
•    Preseason All-Big South guard Isaiah Walton contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.
•    Lorenzo Phillips also scored in double figures for the third time this season.

By The Numbers
•    Longwood is 4-1 for the first time in the program's 15-year Division I era. The last time the Lancers won at least four of their first five games came in 2000-01 when they started 7-0 en route to a 23-8 record and a berth to the 2001 NCAA Division II Tournament.
•    Longwood has held four of its first five opponents under 40.0 percent shooting from the field and 32.0 percent shooting from three-point range.
•    The Lancers have the lowest opponent scoring average (58.4 ppg.) and opponent field goal percentage (.365) in the Big South.
•    Longwood has outrebounded all five opponents this season and boasts a +5.4 rebounding margin, which ranks second in the Big South behind only reigning champion Winthrop's +5.5.
•    In addition to his team-leading 19.2 points per game, guard Isaiah Walton ranks tied for second in the Big South with 8.0 rebounds per game. He and reigning Big South Player of the Year Chris Clemons — also a guard — are the league's only players averaging at least 18.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.
•    With four straight 20-point games to start the season Walton became Longwood's first player to score at least 20 points in his first four games in the program's 15 years as a Division I institution.
•    Longwood has not allowed a dunk this season, while racking up 15 of their own. JaShaun Smith leads the team with five, while Isaiah Walton has four and Spencer Franklin three.
•    Point guard Lorenzo "Shabooty" Phillips leads Longwood with 20 assists this season, 16 of which have come on made three-pointers.
•    Phillips, who played at Texas JuCo powerhouse Trinity Valley and Texas prep power Jack Yates High School, leads Longwood with a +15.09 plus-minus rating per 40 minutes of play. He also leads Longwood with 32.4 minutes per game.

Series History
•    Longwood and Fairfield meet for the first time this Friday at the Elgin Baylor Classic in Seattle, Wash.
•    Fairfield is the first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Longwood has faced since hosting Canisius in Farmville on Nov. 15, 2011.
•    That game against Canisius — which Longwood lost, 87-83 — remains the only game the Lancers have played against a team from the MAAC.
