White Leads Big South Preseason Favorite Radford Past Lancers

Micaela Ellis Leads Longwood With 10 Points in 52-33 Loss

FARMVILLE, Va. – Radford senior forward Janayla White secured her fifth double-double of the season to lead Big South preseason favorite Radford to a 52-33 win over the Longwood women's basketball team Tuesday night inside Willett Hall.

White finished the game with a game-high 12 points, 10 rebounds, as the Big South's second-best defense held Longwood (3-13, 1-4 Big South) to a season-low 33 points on .226 shooting from the floor on a night in which the Lancers played without the services of Big South leading rebounder Autumn Childress and Dayna Rouse.

"The ladies played extremely hard tonight and did a great job of following the game plan," said Longwood head coach Bill Reinson. "Radford is a terrific rebounding team and we did a good job of limiting their second chance opportunities. The unfortunate part was that we couldn't make shots on the other end. If we make a few of those layups, it might be a different game."

White, scored eight of her 12 points in the second half, as she finished the game 5-of-8 from the floor while adding a steal in 24 minutes. Khiana Johnson and Jen Falconer each added nine points for a Radford (10-6, 3-2 Big South) team that improved to fourth place in the conference standings.

In addition to her 10 points, Ellis secured four assists which led directly to 11 Longwood points. Coming off a 13 point game Saturday at UNC Asheville, Mallory Odell scored eight points and secured a team-high seven rebounds while Que King added six points along with two steals and an assist.

Ellis continued her ascent up the Longwood career assist charts, adding four to move within one of joining Keva Small for ninth-place on the career list. Ellis, who made her 46th career start going back to the 2016-17 season, tallied her fifth game of the season in double figures and team-leading ninth with at least three assists.

Longwood's defense held Radford to just 52 points, the lowest point total that the Lancers have yielded to an opponent this season and the second lowest point production for Radford against a non-Power Five confernece opponent.

In addition, the Lancers held preseason First-Team All-Big South selection Jayda Worthy to just two points, two rebounds. Worthy, who was averaging 15.7 points per game in her last six games, had her second lowest point total of the season and her lowest in Big South play.

"I was pleased with our defensive effort," Reinson said. "Hopefully we can carry that over."

Longwood looks to rebound when it travels to High Point Saturday, Jan. 20. That game is set for a 2 p.m. tip inside the Mills Center in High Point, N.C.
