HARRISONBURG, Va. – Six players picked up multi-hit games for James Madison as the Dukes topped Longwood, 16-0, in seven innings Wednesday night at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park.
JMU (19-21) scored 11 runs in the third inning to put away the game early, which saw 14 players step to the plate inning the half inning.
Longwood (13-26) was held to four hits in the loss, on what was a staff day for both teams. Christian Bourne (1-0) picked up the win in the start, tossing 2.1 innings of two-hit ball.
Jon Peterson (1-2) took the loss after allowing five runs, four earned, in 2.0 innings of work, striking out three batters with one walk issued.
Kyle McPherson (2-for-5), Adam Sisk (2-for-5), Zach Tondi (3-for-3), Fox Semones (3-for-4), Bradley McKay (2-for-3), and Mike Sciorra (2-for-3) each put together multi-hit games for JMU.
McPherson and Sisk each homered for the Dukes, who pounded out 17 hits, eight for extra bases. McPherson and Henry Brown each picked up three RBI, whole Semones and McKay drove in a pair of runners.
Antwaun Tucker extended his hitting streak to five games, going 1-for-2 in the loss.
Sammy Miller was hit by pitch, running his on-base streak to 29 games.
JMU scored two runs in the second inning to strike first, scored 11 runs in the third inning, and scored single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth inning to run away with the game.
Longwood returns to action Friday night, hosting Liberty for a three-game weekend series. All three games can be viewed online, with Friday's game on ESPN3 and both Saturday and Sunday on the Big South Network.
First pitch against Liberty on Friday is set for 7 p.m. at Buddy Bolding Stadium.
