Comly’s Career-High 27 Points Sinks Lancers

Longwood Has Three Players Finish in Double Figures in 72-52 Loss

FARMVILLE, Va. – Fairleigh Dickinson guard Madelynn Comly scored 19 of her game and career-high 27 points in the second half to lift the visiting Knights to a 72-52 win over the Longwood women's basketball Sunday afternoon inside Willett Hall.

Comly's performance helped the Knights (5-1) to their fifth win in their first six games of the season, helping the squad to the program's best start since a 6-1 start in the 1991-92 season. Comy's career day negated three Lancers that finished the afternoon in double figures led by 12 points from senior guard Micaela Ellis, along with 10 points each from Stephanie Guihon and Kate Spradlin.

A career-high 27-point effort from Comly, a 5-9 junior guard, paced a Fairleigh Dickinson offensive outing where the Knights shot .480 (24-of-50) from the field and .500 (10-of-20) from beyond the arc. Comly, who surpassed her previous career-high of 22 points last season against Sacred Heart, finished the day 7-of-11 from the floor, including 4-of-4 from three-point range and 9-of-9 at the charity stripe.

For the Lancers, Guihon scored in double figures for the second straight game just eight days after her 17 points against UMass Lowell became the most by a freshman in a home debut in Longwood's Division I era. Guihon earned her third consecutive start, as the Largo, Md., product went 3-of-8 from the floor and added two rebounds and two assists in 34 minutes.

Ellis scored a season-high 12 points to lead Longwood's three players in double figures, while adding a pair of assists and steals in 33 minutes. Meanwhile, Autumn Childress, coming off a 15-rebound performance that marked the most rebounds by a Lancer since Heather Tobeck grabbed 15 during the 2013-14 season, finished with six points and eight rebounds, just shy of collecting her third consecutive double-double.

After a first half that neither team held more than a nine point lead and Fairleigh Dickinson went to the locker room with seven point lead, Longwood came out and quickly closed the margin to one point with an 8-2 run over the opening 2:33. However, a 5-0 Knight run gave Fairleigh Dickinson a six point lead and that was as close as Longwood would get for the remainder of the game.

Longwood will look to bounce back, as the squad returns to the road Wednesday, Nov. 29 at Delaware State. That game is set for a 6 p.m., opening tip from Dover, Del.
