FARMVILLE, Va. – In a rematch of last week's season finale, Campbell senior Loren Day netted a hat trick to guide the No. 3-seeded Camels to a 14-5 win over No. 6 seed Longwood Saturday at Barker-Lane Stadium in the Big South quarterfinals.
Â
Day, who was named Big South Offensive Player of the Year, added four assists to go along with her three goals to help the Camels (10-8) erase an early two goal first-half deficit. The Campbell win ends Longwood's (8-10) five-game win streak in the series dating back to when the series began in 2013.
Â
"Unfortunately, today wasn't our day and the ball just didn't bounce our way," said Longwood head coach
Elaine Jones. "It can be a challenge to beat a team twice in a week on their turf. Although we won last week, Campbell was able to execute better than us today and they got the win."
Â
Longwood jumped out on top early to grab a 2-1 lead in the first eight minutes of the game with goals from seniors
Sarah Butler and
Katie McHugh. At the three-minute mark, Butler made her way around the backside of the goal before putting in the first Lancer goal and then sophomore attacker
Riley Dolan fed McHugh five minutes later.
Â
After Campbell evened the score on a McKenzie Koeller goal, the Lancers put in back-to-back scores to regain the lead at 4-2. Sophomore
Madison Stair found the net on a solo goal with 16:00 remaining in the half, which was followed up by McHugh returning the favor by setting up Dolan at the 17-minute mark.
Â
Over the next 30 minutes, the Camels separated themselves with a stretch of 10 straight goals sparked by back-to-back setups by Big South assist leader Erica Hitch to take a 12-4 lead. Hitch fed Melissa Placek and Carter Koontz, and then scored the first goal of the second half while Day followed with two straight goals with just over 15 minutes left on the game clock.
Â
Despite facing a large deficit in the closing minutes of the game, the Lancers kept fighting to the end to add on another goal with 7:19 remaining in the game. Senior attacker
Lisa Schell found the net to give Longwood its fifth and final score of the afternoon.
Â
The Camels sealed the game with two straight goals to end the afternoon, including Day's third goal in the final two minutes of the game. The goal marked Day's Big South-leading 68th of the season.
Â

Prior to the first draw, a special ceremony was held to recognize a number of Big South award winners from both squads. Among those honored from Longwood were Big South Co-Defensive Player of the Year
Shiloh McKenzie, who was also a Big South first team pick, first team all-conference and all-academic selection in Butler and a second team all-conference choice in McHugh.
Â
McHugh, who entered the game tied for the national points lead, tied with Dolan for a Lancer team-high two points on the day to finish her senior campaign with a single-season program-record 93 points. A product of Burke, Va., McHugh passed Natalie Smith to become Longwood's all-time career points leader with 267 points to end her career following the two-point outing.

Â
"I'm happy to reach this accomplishment and can't thank everyone enough," said McHugh. "All of my coaches and teammates have helped me so much throughout my four years here to shape me into the player I've become. I will forever be thankful for the time I've had playing for Longwood and the memories that I've made will stick with me forever."
Â
In addition to having her name etched atop the program's all-time points list, McHugh has also left her mark as the second-leading goal scorer (195) while finishing fifth in assists (72) in Longwood history.
Â
Also leaving an imprint among the school's all-time career leaders was Butler, who ends her stellar career with 218 points to finish in fourth place on program's all-time career points list following her one-goal effort. A product of Melbourne, Australia, she wraps up her senior season also ranking in fifth in goals (139) and fourth in assists (79) in Longwood history.
Â
McKenzie also enjoyed another solid season to finish with a career-best 30 caused turnovers to lead the team for the second straight season while also winning a team-high 64 ground balls. On the offensive side of the field, the senior defender broke out for a career-high 29 goals on the season to nd the season as the Lancers' fourth-leading scorer.
Â

The Lancers will lose one of the best goal-scoring duos in program history McHugh and Butler. McHugh, led Longwood with a 53 goals, her third straight year with 50-plus goals, and Butler tallied 49 goals to give them a combined 109 on the year.
Â
With her lone goal on the day, Schell joined the group of seniors to find success this season to finish with a career-high 14 points. Behind her 14-point year as a senior, Schell posted career bests of seven goals and seven assists while starting all 13 games in which she played to end her career.
Â
Sophomore midfielder
Madison Stair also ended the season on a high note with her solo score to push her career-high goal total to 41 on the year. Stair emerged this season as Longwood's third-leading goal scorer and joined senior offensive leaders Butler and McHugh as one of the squad's three 40-plus goal scorers.
Â
Longwood now says goodbye to its highly impactful senior class that combined for 138 goals as a group, accounting for about 60 percent of the squad's scoring, in their final season donning the blue and white.
Â
"We're proud of all the progress our players made throughout the year and we're especially proud of the contributions and accomplishments of our senior class. They have been excellent representatives as Longwood student-athletes, both on and off the field, during their four years. We will really miss their competitiveness, leadership and friendship, but wish them well as they step forward into the next phase of their lives," Jones said.
