FDU’s Third Quarter Run Sinks Lancers, 75-59

Jada Russell Scores in Double Figures for Third Straight Game Finishing With Team-High 15 Points

HACKENSACK, N.J. – Three double figure scorers and a game-high 16 points from Fairleigh Dickinson forward Briana Thomas lifted the Knights to a 75-59 win over visiting Longwood Friday night at Stratis Arena.

Thomas , Kiana Brown and Madelynn Comly all scored in double figures for the Knights and scored a combined 18 points during a 27-11 run over the final eight minutes, 20 seconds of the third quarter that extended Fairleigh Dickinson's (1-1) lead from five points to 21 points.

After an Eboni Gilliam layup and a pair of Jada Russell free throws that brought the deficit to five points after the half, the Knights answered with a 10-2 run over the next three minutes to re-take a double digit lead that it never relinquished the remainder of the game.

Eight of Thomas' game-high 16 points came during the third quarter, as she added three rebounds, a steal and assist during the period. Comly added 14 points and Brown finished with 12 to join Thomas in double figures, while Amina Markovic brought down a game-high 13 boards.

Meanwhile, Russell scored a team-high 15 points for Longwood (0-3) to mark her third straight game in double figures. A product of Yeadon, Pa., Russell has finished in double figures in her first three games, as she's within two games of matching former Longwood guard Chelsea Coward for most consecutive games in double figures to open a career with five.

Russell's latest display comes on the heels of a 13-point effort at Marquette and an 11-point night Tuesday at Cameron Indoor Stadium. She entered Friday's game as the second leading scorer among freshmen in the Big South and among the top-10 overall.

In addition, Dayna Rouse stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, three rebounds, as well as three steals and a pair of blocks, while Eboni Gilliam brought down a team-high 10 rebounds and finished four points shy of collecting her first double-double of the season. In addition, Khaila Hall added a game-high six assists in the contest, as Longwood had 13 assists on 21 made field goals.

The Lancers complete a stretch of three games in five days, as the squad travels to UMass-Lowell for a Sunday matinee contest. That contest is set for a 2 p.m., opening tip and will be broadcast on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.
