FARMVILLE, Va. – Campbell forward Bria Emanuel tallied her first career double-double, as the Camels jumped out to an early 20-9 first-quarter lead and never trailed en route to a 73-56 win Saturday afternoon inside Willett Hall.
Emmanuel, a product of Dayton, Texas, finished the game with career-highs of 13 points and 10 rebounds for Campbell (7-7, 2-3 BSC) to spoil Longwood's (5-10, 2-4 BSC) two-game winning streak that it had coming into Saturday's contest.
Emmanuel came into Saturday's game averaging just 1.7 points per contest with a career-best of six points earlier this season at Coastal Carolina. The 6-0 redshirt-junior erupted to finish the night 5-of-6 from the floor and 2-of-3 from the free throw line, while pitching in two steals in 24 minutes.
Also contributing to the successful evening for the Camels was Amanda Coffer who scored a team-high 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting and added seven rebounds. In addition, the junior forward, who came into the game ranked 25th in the nation in blocked shots, added to her totals with two blocks and two steals in 25 minutes.
Coffer and RaeChaun Edwards, who finished the night with eight points and seven assists, combined for 12 of Campbell's 20 points during the game-opening 20-9 run throughout the first period of play.
In the second quarter, Campbell, who shot .481 from the floor for the game, stretched its lead to 17 points at the 2:30 mark of the quarter, before Longwood closed the period on a 10-2 run to get back within nine points headed into the break.
Sparked by a .500 shooting percentage in the opening half, the Camels finished the game shooting .481 from the floor to mark the second highest shooting percentage for a Longwood opponent this season, as only Oregon State had a better percentage against the Lancer defense after shooting .641 in the season-opener in Corvallis, Ore.
For the Lancers,Â
Daeisha Brown turned in a game-high 19 points, one shy of her season high. In addition, senior guardÂ
Deborah Headen also reached double-figures in scoring with 11 points in the game.
Headen, Longwood's third leading scorer on the season, tallied double figure points for the third straight game, while Brown draws closer to the 1,000 point mark, needing 59 points to reach that mark.
In addition, junior college transfer
Eboni Gilliam added six points and nine rebounds to account for her 10th game this season with 6+ boards.
The Lancers closed the margin to within eight points in the fourth quarter, but couldn't draw any closer, as the Camels iced the game at the charity stripe by hitting 7-of-8 free throws in the final three minutes.
Longwood will look to bounce back on the road at UNC Asheville Tuesday, Jan. 12. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m., inside Kimmel Arena in Asheville, N.C.
