The Opening Tip• Longwood takes on Charleston Southern for the second time this season Saturday at Willet Hall. The Buccaneers took down the Lancers 68-54 in the first meeting on Jan. 10 in Charleston.
• The last time Longwood and Charleston Southern squared off, Longwood center
Lotanna Nwogbo suffered a torn thumb ligament that forced him out of the game early and eventually required surgery. Nwogbo has not played since the injury.
• The Lancers have had exactly 14 days between each of their past four wins. Saturday will mark the 14th day since Longwood's last win, a 71-67 victory over Presbyterian on Jan. 31.
• Point guard
Leron Fisher is questionable with an ankle injury he suffered Wednesday at Radford. Fisher is Longwood's second-leading scorer at 14.7 points per game and the Big South leader with 51 steals.
Last Time Out• Longwood shut down Radford's leading scorer Javonte Green, but five of his teammates stepped up to score in double figures and lead the Highlanders to an 80-75 win over Longwood Wednesday evening at the Dedmon Center.
• Blanketed the entire game by Longwood forward
Shaquille Johnson, the Big South's eighth-leading scorer managed just four points on 1-of-7 shooting but was able to take a backseat with Cameron Jones scoring a team-high 15 points and R.J. Price adding 11 points and five assists.
• Radford's win avenged the double-overtime loss Longwood handed the Highlanders earlier this season, and pushed Radford into a four-way tie for first place in the conference.
• Johnson scored 22 points and grabbed six boards while
Quincy Taylor scored 16 and
Leron Fisher added 15.
By The Numbers• Longwood is 61 three-point field goals away from breaking the school's single-season three-point record. The Lancers have knocked down 205 treys this season, trailing the 265 that the 2011-12 Lancers hit. Longwood averages 7.9 made three-pointers per game with five regular season games and the Big South Tournament remaining.
• Longwood ranks second in the Big South with a .363 (205-of-565) three-point percentage, which would rank as the school's second-highest mark in the Division I era.
•
Quincy Taylor is on pace to break Longwood's single-season three-point shooting percentage record. Taylor sits atop the list with a .476 (59-of-124) clip and would be the first Lancer to shoot higher than .470 in a season. Taylor's .476 three-point percentage ranks fourth nationally.
• Longwood ranks 10th in the nation with 215 steals and 12th with 398 forced turnovers. Longwood is one of only 27 teams in the nation with more than 200 steals.
• In Big South play,
Leron Fisher leads Longwood with 38 assists and 29 steals. He ranks third with 14.1 games and is shooting .425 (54-of-127) from the floor, .375 (18-of-48) from three-point range and .814 (57-of-70) from the free throw line.
• Fisher has scored in double figures in 10 of his last 12 games and is averaging 14.7 points per game during that stretch. He scored in double figures just once in his first 14 games while averaging 5.6 points per game.
•
Quincy Taylor leads the Big South with 35.4 minutes played per game. Taylor has played at least 30 minutes in 21 of 23 games this season, including 14 in a row.
• Since Longwood center
Lotanna Nwogbo went down with a thumb injury on Jan. 10,
Shaquille Johnson has stepped in as Longwood's leading rebounder. Johnson has averaged 6.0 rebounds per game in Nwogbo's absence compared to 3.9 prior to the injury.
