CONWAY, S.C. -- Josh Cameron scored a game-high 17 points to lead Coastal Carolina University to a 67-58 Big South Conference men's basketball victory past Longwood University on Saturday afternoon in Conway, South Carolina. The host South Division-leading Chanticleers (14-10, 7-3 Big South) used a 22-3 first-half run to lead 33-20 at halftime, and had four players reach double-figure scoring in the contest. Senior captain
Tristan Carey/Colonial Beach scored a team-high 16 points for the visiting Lancers (7-18, 2-8 Big South), who dropped their fourth consecutive game. Longwood will return home to welcome another South Division opponent, Winthrop University, on Wednesday night, February 12 at 7 p.m. at Willett Hall in Farmville.

Longwood opened with a jumper by sophomore
Karl Ziegler/Annandale and a three-point field goal from Carey to lead 5-0 at 17:19. Coastal Carolina answered with 10-straight points to lead 10-5 at 13:14, getting a three-point play inside by El Hadji Ndieguene and a three-pointer from Elijah Wilson. The Chanticleers extended their run to 22-3 for a 22-8 advantage at 10:14, the outburst capped by another three-pointer -- this time by Colton Ray-St Cyr, while Cameron added two three-pointers, as well. The Lancers scored six consecutive points to pull within 22-14 at 5:50 on a pair of free throws by Carey, but CCU responded with an 11-2 run to lead 33-16 with 1:13 on the first-half clock. Wilson sparked the spurt with six points, before the visitors scored the final four points of the half to trail 33-20 at the intermission.

Coastal Carolina began the second half with two more three-pointers from Cameron to take its largest lead of the second half at 39-22 with 16:18 remaining. Longwood battled back with eight unanswered points to make it 39-30 at 12:58, getting four quick points from freshman
Isaac Belton/Salem, off the bench. The Chanticleers, however, stretch their advantage once-again and led 51-37 with 8:12 to play following a dunk by Badou Diagne. The Lancers, though, refused to go away and fought back yet again and closed to within 63-56 with just under a minute remaining (0:52) on a layup by redshirt-junior captain
Jeylani Dublin/Brooklyn, New York. Dublin scored 11 points during the 19-12 run, while freshman
Darrion Allen/Pompano Beach, Florida, making his first collegiate start, added the other eight points. CCU secured the home triumph with four-of-four free throws by Warren Gillis over the final 45 seconds.

Carey led Longwood with his team-high 16 points, adding a team-high nine rebounds. He totals 1,387 career points to rank 8th all-time, and his 217 career three-pointers rank 2nd all-time. Allen matched his season-high with 12 points for the Lancers. Dublin added 11 points in 15 minutes, while Belton contributed nine points. Ziegler had six points and five rebounds, and sophomore captain
Lucas Woodhouse/Greenlawn, New York finished with four points and a team-high four assists, giving him 181 season assists for a new program record, surpassing his own record of 180 assists from last season. He now totals 361 career assists to rank 5th all-time. Longwood shot 33% (20-61) from the field, including 11% (2-18) on three-pointers and 73% (16-22) at the free throw line.

Cameron led Coastal Carolina with his game-high 17 points, including 4-6 three-pointers, adding a game-high seven assists. Diagne finished with 16 points and eight rebounds for the Chanticleers, while Wilson added 14 points and Gillis had 11 points. Ndieguene contributed the three points along with a game-high 10 rebounds. CCU shot 43% (23-53) from the field, including 37% (7-19) on three-pointers and 74% (14-19) at the line.

Longwood and Coastal Carolina were meeting for only the third time, and the Chanticleers now lead the series, 2-1. The Lancers are not scheduled to play CCU again during the regular-season, but the two teams could meet again in the VisitMyrtleBeach.com/Big South Men's Basketball Championship, March 5-9.
