Longwood Plays At Liberty Tuesday At 7 p.m.

FARMVILLE, Va. --
Longwood University will play at Liberty University in a Big South Conference North Division men's basketball game on Tuesday night, February 25 at 7 p.m. at the Vines Center in Lynchburg.  The contest between the Lancers (8-21, 3-11 Big South) and the host Flames (10-19, 4-10 Big South) can be viewed on MASN, ESPN3 and the Big South Network, and can also be heard locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM or via the Internet at wvhl.net.

The Game
Longwood (8-21, 3-11) continues its first season of the Jayson Gee Era on Tuesday at 7 p.m., as the Lancers play at Big South Conference North Division opponent Liberty (10-19, 4-10).  Longwood defeated the Flames by a score of 69-66 last month on January 22 in Farmville, getting a game-winning three-point field goal from Lucas Woodhouse with 2.9-seconds remaining.  Woodhouse led the Lancers with a career-high 27 points, including 7-10 three-pointers.  Tomasz Gielo led Liberty with 20 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Series
Longwood and Liberty have met 28 times since 1977-78, and the Lancers lead the series, 19-9.  The Flames, however, maintain an 8-5 advantage against Longwood in games played in Lynchburg, including two-straight since the Lancers moved to Division I for 2007-08 (91-67, 11/27/07; 74-47, 1/22/13).  Longwood is 14-1 against Liberty in games played in Farmville, including 13-0 in games played in Willett Hall.

The Flames
Liberty is 10-19 overall, 4-10 in the Big South, including a 79-59 road win at Campbell on Feb. 22.  Dale Layer is in his fifth year as head coach of the Flames, and his 21st year as a collegiate head coach.  LU is expected to start redshirt-senior Antwan Burrus (12.6 points, 5.2 rebounds), senior John Caleb Sanders (11.3 points, 4.4 assists), juniors Tomasz Gielo (10.5 points, 5.9 rebounds) and Andrew Smith (8.0 points, 5.6 rebounds) and sophomore Joe Retic (4.3 points).  Senior Davon Marshall (10.4 points, 61 3FGs) played off the bench at Campbell.  The Flames shoot 45% (729-1607) from the field, including 35% (160-453) on three-pointers and 70% (394-561) at the free throw line.

The Lancers
Longwood is 8-21 overall, 3-11 in the Big South, including an 85-59 home loss to High Point on Feb. 22.  The Lancers are expected to start senior Tristan Carey (18.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, 88 3FGs), sophomores Karl Ziegler (11.8 points, 5.2 rebounds) and Lucas Woodhouse (11.0 points, 7.0 assists), redshirt-junior Jeylani Dublin (10.9 points, 4.2 rebounds) and freshman Darrion Allen (5.7 points).  Sophomore Leron Fisher (6.9 points) has played off the bench over the last five games.  Longwood shoots 45% (736-1648) from the field, including 36% (161-450) on three-pointers and 73% (395-542) at the line.

Viral Video
The late-game dunk by Tristan Carey against Radford on Feb. 19 made No. 4 on ESPN's SportsCenter Top 10 Plays that night and has received over 28,850 views on YouTube in less than five days (as of Feb. 24) … the slam (linked above) was also featured on the network's SportsNation on Feb. 20 at No. 2, 'Taken To The Woodshed.'
