Longwood-Winthrop Tip Time Moved Up To 4 p.m.

FARMVILLE, Va. --
The start time for the Longwood University men's basketball game against visiting Winthrop University on Wednesday, February 12 at Willett Hall has been changed to 4 p.m., in anticipation of the forecasted winter weather conditions.  The Big South Conference game in Farmville had been scheduled for 7 p.m.  The contest between the Lancers (7-18, 2-8 Big South) and the visiting Eagles (13-10, 6-4 Big South) can be viewed exclusively on the Big South Network (bigsouthnetwork.com), and can also be heard locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM or via the Internet at wvhl.net.

The Game
Longwood (7-18, 2-8) continues its first season of the (Jayson) Gee Era on Wednesday at 4 p.m., as the Lancers host Big South Conference South Division opponent Winthrop (13-10, 6-4).  Among common league opponents and sites, respective to each school, both Longwood and the Eagles have played home games against Campbell (Longwood, L 75-67; WU, W 88-62) and Gardner-Webb (Longwood, L 82-62; WU, L 56-51), along with road games at Coastal Carolina (Longwood, L 67-58; WU, W 73-72), High Point (Longwood, L 83-75; WU, L 65-64) and Presbyterian (Longwood, L 77-62; WU, W 71-67).

The Series
Longwood and Winthrop have met just three times previously, and only once as members of the Big South.  The Lancers lead the overall series, 2-1, including a road win last year in Rock Hill, South Carolina by a score of 62-56 on February 9 for the program's first-ever Big South victory.  Jeylani Dublin scored 13 points, and Tristan Carey added 12 points, as the top returning scorers in that contest for Longwood.  Joab Jerome had 14 points, as the top returning scorer in that game for the Eagles.

The Eagles
Winthrop is 13-10 overall, 6-4 in the Big South, and has won three consecutive games, including an 88-62 home victory past Campbell on Feb. 8.  Pat Kelsey is in his second year as head coach of the Eagles.  WU is expected to start freshman Keon Johnson (12.4 points, 46 3FGs), redshirt-junior Keon Moore (12.3 points, 37 3FGs), senior Joab Jerome (11.9 points, 4.1 rebounds), along with juniors Andre Smith (10.0 points) and Larry Brown (4.3 points).  The Eagles shoot 44% (572-1298) from the field, including 39% (187-481) on three-pointers and 69% (348-508) at the line.

The Lancers
Longwood is 7-18 overall, 2-8 in the Big South, and has lost four-straight games, including a 67-58 road loss at Coastal Carolina on Feb. 8.  The Lancers are expected to start senior Tristan Carey (19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 81 3FGs), sophomores Karl Ziegler (12.2 points, 5.1 rebounds) and Lucas Woodhouse (10.6 points, 7.2 assists), freshman Darrion Allen (5.3 points), and senior Jeff Havenstein (1.6 points).  Redshirt-junior Jeylani Dublin (11.0 points, 4.5 rebounds) will play off the bench.  Longwood is shooting 45% (637-1427) from the field, including 36% (142-395) on three-pointers and 73% (343-468) at the line.

The Friendly Confines
Longwood is 5-5 at home in Willett Hall this season, averaging 76.2 points per game, while shooting 50% (280-564) from the field, 41% (65-160) on three-pointers and 74% (137-186) at the line.  Tristan Carey is averaging 22.1 points (38-86 3FGs-44%), 6.9 rebounds and 2.3 steals at home.  Karl Ziegler is averaging 13.3 points (62% FG) and 5.7 rebounds at home.  Jeylani Dublin is averaging 10.6 points (60% FG) and 5.2 rebounds at home.  Lucas Woodhouse is averaging 10.4 points (81% FT) and 8.6 assists at home.
