BOONE, N.C. — For the seventh time this season, Longwood fell by a single goal, this time at the hands of Appalachian State.
Freshman
Allison Savage made her first-career start in goal for the Lancers and turned in a solid performance making a trio of saves. Yet it was the lone shot that snuck past which decided the game. In the 43rd minute, App State earned a penalty corner; Savage was up to task on the initial shot, but Taylor Cimbalist corralled the rebound and sent her chance through the legs of the Longwood keeper to send the Mountaineers to victory.
Longwood outshout App State by a 9-6 margin, including a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. The Lancers also notched a 3-2 advantage in corners, yet, like much of the 2014 season, simply could not find the goal to break through.
The loss drops Longwood to 6-12 on the season and concludes a tough year on the turf. The Lancers missed out on the MAC Championships after finishing fifth in their inaugural season at 2-4.
