Daeisha Brown/Richmond logged her 13th double-figure scoring game this season with a team-high 16 points, as the Longwood University women's basketball team suffered a 63-54 defeat at Big South Conference opponent Campbell University (13-8, 8-4) on Thursday evening in Buies Creek, N.C. Despite trailing by 19 points with less than five minutes remaining in the contest, the Lancers battled back with a 15-4 run to pull within eight, but were unable to come any closer. Redshirt-senior
Heather Tobeck/La Porte, Texas paced the Lancers on the glass with nine rebounds in the decision. RaeChaun Edwards recorded a double-double of 12 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Fighting Camels. Longwood (6-15, 3-9) will stay on the road to visit Big South opponent Coastal Carolina University on Saturday, February 1 for a 2 p.m. tilt.

Bill Reinson. "We lost our focus in the second half, but we were able to regain it and make a push at the end. This was definitely a step in the right direction. We have to continue to get better each day."

Treasure Avery/Lincolnton, N.C. added a jumper from the paint to give the Lancers an 8-3 edge with 13:03 remaining in the half. Campbell answered with six consecutive points to take a one-point advantage, but Avery hit another jumper and Tobeck drained a bucket from beyond the arc to put Lancers back on top, 13-9, with less than 10 minutes to go. Brenna Robbins/Erie, Pa., CU answered with a 12-3 run to take its largest lead of the half, up 29-21, with less than three minutes to play. Brown pulled up for the final bucket of period, cutting Campbell's lead to six at the half, 29-23.
The teams traded points coming out of the break, as the Fighting Camels led by no more than eight for the first seven minutes to make it a 35-27 margin with just over 13 minutes to go in the contest. The home squad took a double-digit advantage with six-straight points before Robbins drained a three-point jumper for the Lancers. CU responded with a three of its own from Kiera Gaines, sparking a 15-5 Campbell run to pull ahead, 56-37, the largest difference of the night, with 4:49 left to play. Kyndal Skersick/Orlando, Fla. to make it just an eight-point game at 60-52 with less than a minute remaining. Campbell held on, converting on three free throws before Brown tallied the game's final bucket, securing the 63-54 outcome for the Fighting Camels.
Brown added three steals and five rebounds in the outing. Avery and Tobeck added to the offensive effort with nine and eight points. Avery notched a personal-best four assists, as well. As a team, the Lancers shot 34% (19-56) from the floor, including 40% (6-15) from beyond the arc, and 53% (10-19) from the line in the outing.
The Fighting Camels also received double-digit points from Casey Elliot with 10. As a whole, Campbell shot 43% (20-47) from the field, 50% (5-10) from three-point territory and 82% (18-22) from the foul line.
Thursday's contest marked the 12th meeting between Longwood and Campbell in the sport of women's basketball. The Fighting Camels now hold an 8-4 advantage in the all-time series.
