CONWAY, S.C. -- Junior Brittany Foote/Goshen, New York ran a 5K time of 20:36 to lead Longwood University women's cross country to a third-place finish with 90 points on Friday evening at the Coastal Carolina Invitational in Conway, South Carolina. Classmate Elisabeth Drake/Hayes ran 21:24 for the Lancers, as the host Chanticleers won the four-team race with their 22 points, led by individual winner Kyla Van Graan (17:55). Longwood will participate in the Big South Preview hosted by VMI on Saturday, September 21 at 10:30 a.m. in Buena Vista.
"The team has a clear picture of their present abilities as well as specific ways that they will expound on them in the coming races," said head coach Catherine Hanson. "They are poised for continuing improvement and success."
Foote finished 16th overall among the 65 runners, while Drake placed 25th overall. They were followed by freshmen Gracie Piekarski/South Plainfield, N.J. (21:57, 31st), sophomore Emily Krause/Fredericksburg (22:17, 34th) and senior Emberli McGann/Stuarts Draft (22:59, 39th) to round out the scoring positions. Juniors Kristen Blackstock/Lynch Station (23:26, 44th) and Elaine Scerbo/Lottsburg (26:04, 60th), along with freshmen Hannah Fielder/Alexandria (26:35, 62nd) also ran for the Lancers.
Coastal Carolina was followed by The Citadel (40), Longwood (90) and South Carolina State (94).
